His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, recently visited Bad Wolf Studios Wales in Cardiff as part of his ongoing commitment to supporting the creative industries. During the engagement, Prince William spoke with some of the trainees who have been nurtured through Bad Wolf’s @screenalliancewales training initiative and who have subsequently gone on to build their TV careers in South Wales, they are also recipients of The Prince William @bafta Bursary programme.
During the visit, Bad Wolf CEO Jane Tranter gave The Prince a tour around the set of forthcoming @bbc @britboxtv series @otherbennetsistertv and gave him the opportunity to step foot inside the TARDIS on @bbcdoctorwho set. Allison Dowzell, Managing Director of SAW also introduced His Royal Highness to SAW trainees who have all gained their first experience of working in television through paid traineeships.
His Royal Highness also met schoolchildren from St Albans R.C. Primary School, Tremorfa, in the SAW classroom during a puppetry workshop held by SAW Education and Training Executive Sarah O’Keefe. The puppets were used to represent characters’ daemons in the BBC series @darkmaterialsofficial and the class was one many workshops that SAW hold to give young people in Wales first-hand experience of the many different roles in the TV industry.
SAW has arranged 3,772 studio visits including classroom lessons since its inception and created 149 paid traineeships on Welsh TV productions including @industryhbo, @bbcdoctorwho and @otherbennetsistertv.
Jane Tranter said: “it was a complete joy to show Prince William around Bad Wolf’s. We are so incredibly proud of the outreach work being done by Allison Dowzell and the team at SAW, and for Prince William to help highlight the work being done at the studios means a great deal. He was introduced to trainees from a wide range of departments, and it was fantastic to see him take such an interest in the new generation of TV creatives. We are so proud that many of the SAW trainees have gone on to be awarded Prince William BAFTA bursaries, and His Royal Highness was fascinated to hear how each of the trainees was using their bursary to further their careers.” taken in Wolf Studios Wales by @screenalliancewales

Screen Alliance Wales are extremely proud to announce that our Managing Director, Allison Dowzell, has been awarded an OBE in His Majesty the King’s Birthday Honours for services to the broadcast industry. Allison has dedicated her working life to the Film and Television Industry and thoroughly deserves this recognition. She works tirelessly to break down barriers to the industry and provide opportunities to those who never thought a career in TV was even a possibility. We consider ourselves very lucky to be led by her today, and always. Congratulations, Allison Dowzell, OBE, with love from your SAW family.

We’d also like to congratulate Jane Tranter on her incredibly well-deserved CBE. The work we do at SAW would be impossible without her continued passion and support. We are proud to have her as our Commander!

A word from Allison on this incredible achievement:

“I’m incredibly honoured, and more than a little overwhelmed, to have been awarded an OBE in His Majesty The King’s Birthday Honours for services to the broadcast industry.

This recognition means a great deal, but it’s not something I accept alone. Building a career, and building something like Screen Alliance Wales, takes a team. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented, passionate and committed people in the industry.

Screen Alliance Wales simply wouldn’t exist without the extraordinary support of our industry partners, broadcasters, studios, crew, educators and facility companies, who have believed in what we do and helped us grow every step of the way.

Just as importantly, this journey has been rooted in the local communities across Wales. Their energy, creativity and determination have inspired me every day. It’s been a privilege to help open doors into this industry and watch young people from all parts of Wales realise their ambition. I stand in awe of what they go on to achieve.

I also want to thank my husband Bryn, my children Kim, Amy and JC, whose unwavering support has carried me through the challenges and milestones alike. I simply couldn’t have done any of this without them." by @screenalliancewales
