Confused about the WB-Paramount merger? Here’s your guide to every change that’s happening.

SWIPE ➡️ to read our breakdown.

Skydance announced its new leadership this week as it finalized its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. As it merges with Paramount, many things are changing, but familiar faces and brands will remain.

The new company is called Skydance, but WB and Paramount keep their own brands.

Paramount+ and HBO Max will eventually merge into one streaming service. CEO David Ellison says this will be gradual: separate at first, then a bundle, then a full merge. The process could take years.

The film division shifts, with Paramount gaining most control. Former WB heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca are replaced by Paramount’s Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, who oversee all studios (Paramount, New Line, WB, Paramount Animation, WB Animation, and Warner Bros. Clockwork). DC Studios remains independent under James Gunn and Peter Safran, reporting to Ellison. Skydance will release 30 films in theaters per year.

CNN and CBS keep separate newsrooms and editorial independence. Bari Weiss (CBS) and Mark Thompson (CNN) stay as editors-in-chief.

Streaming stays largely with WB. Casey Bloys oversees all services (HBO Max, Paramount+, Discovery+, Pluto TV, and more). HBO and Paramount+ keep separate slates; HBO retains prestige TV independence.

TV production consolidates under Skydance Television, overseeing WB TV, CBS Studios, and Paramount TV Studios (incl. animation and Nickelodeon). Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network stay separate but report here. Output is expected to decrease. Shows will still be made for external platforms (e.g. Ted Lasso for Apple TV).

CBS Sports and TNT Sports will merge into one channel. Cable channels (HGTV, MTV, etc.) continue, with some consolidation or shutdowns expected. TCM moves under the film division.

DC Comics continues independently under Skydance’s Products & Publishing Division. Layoffs will occur for cost synergies.

Skydance will boost major IP, with Barbie 2 fast-tracked and a focus on DC and Harry Potter.
