Peter Blake, ‘Shrine to Marilyn in a Texas Diner,’ currently on show with @jameshymangallery at @treasurehousefair

Peter Blake follows this elegiac theme to ‘combine loss with glamour and devotion’ in his, ‘ huge assemblage, Shrine to Marilyn Monroe, in a Texas Diner, one of his largest and most important works, a secular shrine of found imagery and assembled objects, in which red roses appear as offerings before Monroe.’

Thanks to @katherinetulloh for the image

Max Factor creates Haute Colour!
A 1965 advertisement featuring Seurat’s ‘La Grande Jatte’ (don’t know where it was published but the British spelling is maybe a clue - any ideas let me know).

The painting overlaps the model’s forehead implying that her face is also a work of art - her medium is a palate of pastel coloured pressed powders and her tool a telescopic brush. by @screenstarmakeup

Very excited to see Elaine Shemilt’s video Doppelgänger (1979-81) on show in London at @twotempleplace as part of the exhibition The Weight of Being which explores artistic expression and mental health.

The first two images are stills from the video which shows Shemilt applying makeup in front of a mirror before marking her features directly on the mirror with a marker pen. The third image shows the video in situ in the opulent Neo-Tudor surroundings of Two Temple Place and the last image has the exhibition text.

The exhibition is on until 19 April and entry is free.

These telephone dial powder compacts, made by Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli with Salvador Dali, are currently on show at @vamuseum in Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art.

The exhibition text reads:

‘Dalí and Schiaparelli’s collaborations started small. In typically surrealist style, they exploited the tactile intimacy of a rotary telephone dial by transforming it into a pressed-powder compact. This was one of the attention-grabbing accessories Schiaparelli added to her first themed collection - Stop, Look and Listen - which marked the opening of her new premises on Place Vendôme. The compact could be personalised with an engraved monogram. The design proved so popular that it was long reproduced.’

Two paintings by British/Australian artist Pamela Henty-Creer:

1: Untitled (painting toenails), c.1940s, oil on board, 45 x35cm.
2: Untitled (a production meeting between Zoltan and Alexander Korda with the artist at her typewriter), 1946, oil on canvas, 48x 38 cm

They are from a group of paintings by sisters Pamela & Dierdre Henry-Greer which are on show, alongside objects owned by the family, at M. Goldstein, 67 Hackney Rd @art.antiques.attire

The family have interesting film connections. Pamela worked for Alexander Korda, and her brother Henry was an assistant cameraman on The Four Feathers (1939) and The Thief of Bagdad (1940), and a cameraman on Powell and Pressburger’s 49th Parallel (1941)
