We played an incredible show on Sunday honoring the life and legacy of John Coltrane!! The band was completely in the zone. We were over capacity with almost 300 people at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Huntington, Long Island just a few miles from the @coltranehome who made this all possible. It was a total honor to participate in one of many celebrations happening this year but especially one that hits so close to home!! (Pun intended)
.
Thank you to @jebpatton @claffybass and @chuckgeezy for bringing their incredible musicianship, soul and spirit to this one. We got a standing ovation and really felt like something special was in the air.
.
The clip never do it justice but this was taken from our opening song and we ended up playing for 90min straight.
.
Thanks again to all involved and hope to see you soon!!

Woodwinds can do anything!

From flute to bass clarinet, from soprano sax to baritone sax — you name it. It’s fascinating to see how many instruments the woodwind players in ZPJO are able to double on.

ZPJO is thrilled to introduce our woodwind section. Whether they are guests or long-time members, their voices deserve to be heard:
Andrew Gould @andrew_gould – Reed 1
Brian Krock @brian.krock – Reed 2
Sam Dillon @sdsaxophone – Reed 3
Ryota Sasaki @ryota_sax – Reed 4
*Andrew Gutauskas @andrewgutauskas – Reed 5
Tyler White @tylerwhitejazz – Reed 5
* = NOT in this particular concert

October 10th, 7:30 PM at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Tickets are available now via the link in my bio, or here:
https://www.carnegiehall.org/Calendar/2026/10/10/Zhengtao-Pan-Jazz-Orchestra-featuring-Chris-Potter-and-Rufus-Reid-0730PM

Or simply search “Zhengtao Pan Jazz Orchestra” and you will see the ticket link.

Tickets are going fast, and you don’t want to miss it!

Stay tuned!

@coltranehome has graciously invited me to celebrate 100 years of @johncoltrane on Sunday, October 4th in Huntington, Long Island. As a native Long Islander this is incredibly meaningful and I’m honored to join in celebrating the life of someone we all are in awe of.
.
I don’t think I’d be doing what I’m doing today if that incredibly haunting sound of unity hadn’t made such a profound effect on me so early on. This is free to the public and I hope you can attend!

Joining me will be

Here’s some on “Chi Chi” from last night at the session @smallslive ….Kind of a funny moment as I left @msnow_music charts in my bell from our opening set. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my horn or reed and eventually realized I had the bell stuffed with music. Anyway, I was dreading hearing the sound on the livestream today but it’s not as bad as I thought…goes to show you, it’s ALWAYS worse in your head than it actually is. An absolute pleasure to play with Matt’s band last night and be back at Smalls!!
