It’s been one of the busiest summers to memory and we recently had the opportunity to celebrate a few of our many hard working guards. Last week the following stand out LG’s 🔨🔨 were awarded at our end of summer banquet, thank you to @culverbeer for hosting us! Also a shoutout to @may_seas for the time and effort spent making the coolest awards!

The bulk of summer might be over but our guards will keep at it as more heat and waves are in the forecast! Thank you to everyone for working so hard this year, whether you were grinding overtime all summer or helping out on days we were short, you all made a difference and played a key role in this amazing team.

Some shots from Slamarack! Thank you to @jpovphoto for the drone clips and @surfchaserphoto and @sublimef8 for the shots! It was a busy day for lifeguards with many rescues up and down the coast, hundreds of participants at slamarack and thousands more on the beach to watch the spectacle. While all of this was happening, lifeguards also responded and initiated Code X protocol for a missing swimmer in south Carlsbad. taken in Tamarack Beach by @sdsla

The numbers don’t lie… your San Diego State Lifeguards have been busy keeping the beaches safe. Over the last 2 weeks (7/12-7/26) our guards have met this long run of warm weather and swell head on completing over 28 thousand preventative contacts, 388 aquatic rescues, countless medical aids, and of course held it down for a massive crowd at Slamarack. With more good weather and swell on the forecast lifeguards would like to remind you to always check in and swim in front of an open lifeguard tower. Also a reminder that open water lifeguards in California are still not recognized as first responders. Lifeguarding has gone through many changes, but across generations of guards we know that the 4th of July stands out as our busiest day. Day 2 of our second session of Lifeguard Training has plenty of swell for our newest batch of lifeguard candidates. During this historic swell, we’ll be making sure our trainees stay safe and we will also be keeping a close eye on the public. Wrapping up our contributions for National Beach Safety Week with some information on what to do if you’re stung by a stingray. These are some of the most common medical aids lifeguards come across. Treatment involves managing any bleeding and soaking the area in as hot of water as the patient can stand. Remember to keep an eye out for any signs of infection!
