If you don’t compete in powerlifting, you don’t HAVE to train like a powerlifter.

For many of my clients—especially taller lifters and people training for strength and longevity—the trap bar is one of my favorite deadlift options.

My client Fernando was 185 lbs three years ago. Today he’s 220. And here’s the interesting part:

He only started deadlifting a few months ago.

Yet he’s already moving some serious weight for 6 reps.

Why?

Because we didn’t need the deadlift to build his strength. We built his body FIRST.

Squats. Lunges. RDLs. Rows. Carries. Presses. Unilateral work. Core stability. Years of progressively getting stronger across multiple movement patterns.

Then we introduced the trap-bar deadlift—and all that strength transferred.

Now we’re gradually working toward 405 × 5. No rush. No ego. Just progressive overload, good technique, and longevity.

At 6’3”, I’ve learned this lesson personally. I built a lot of my physique with the traditional barbell lifts, but after years of lifting, I’ve also learned that an exercise doesn’t get bonus points because it’s considered one of the “Big Three.”

At 40, my priorities have evolved:

Get strong. Stay strong. Keep moving. And be able to train for decades.

Especially for my 40+ clients, the goal isn’t proving what you can lift today at the expense of what you’ll be able to do tomorrow.

The exercise is a tool. Your body, goals, anatomy, and training history determine which tool we use.

This isn’t just about fitness.

Some of you have “tried everything.”
Every diet. Every program. Every coach. Every challenge.

And nothing seems to stick.

But this goes DOUBLE for business.

You say you’re tired of the 9–5.
You say you want freedom.
You say you want to become an entrepreneur and build something of your own.

Yet you’ve tried every business opportunity, bought every program, listened to every coach, attended every training, learned every new tactic…

And you’re still not producing consistent sales, revenue, or results.

At some point, you have to stop blaming the vehicle and look at the driver.

Are you actually following through?
Are you doing the uncomfortable work when nobody is watching?
Are you making the calls, following up, creating the content, asking for the sale, improving your skills—and doing it consistently?

Or are you constantly jumping to the next method because starting something new feels better than mastering something old?

Fitness and business have a lot in common:

Half commitment rarely produces full results.

Stop searching for the perfect workout.
Stop searching for the perfect business.
Stop searching for the perfect coach, tactic, opportunity, or timing.

Pick a direction. Develop the skills. Stay consistent. Execute.

Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t another strategy.

Sometimes you just need to get it together and do the work.

If this hit you, save it. Share it with somebody who needs it—and ask yourself today:

Where am I expecting results I haven’t earned through consistent action yet? taken in San Diego Strength and Wellness by @sdstrengthandwellness

1️⃣ MUSCLE IS METABOLIC ARMOR. 💪
Muscle isn’t just about looking good or lifting heavy. It’s one of your body’s largest sites for glucose disposal and plays a major role in insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.

2️⃣ YOUR MUSCLE-TO-FAT RATIO MATTERS.
When muscle mass is low—especially alongside higher visceral fat—you lose some of that metabolic protection. Poor metabolic health is also associated with inflammation and a greater risk of chronic musculoskeletal problems.

3️⃣ STRENGTH TRAINING GOES WAY BEYOND FITNESS.
Your muscles, tendons, joints, and metabolism don’t operate independently. Strength training can help preserve muscle, improve insulin sensitivity, support physical function, and contribute to healthier aging. This isn’t just about six-packs and PRs. It’s about building a body that keeps working for you.

4️⃣ THIS IS WHY GOOD PERSONAL TRAINING MATTERS.
A personal trainer shouldn’t just count reps and hand you workouts. The goal is to help you build and preserve muscle, move better, get stronger, improve your body composition, and create habits that support your long-term health.

You don’t need to become a bodybuilder. You need enough strength and muscle to support the life you want to keep living.

If you’re ready to start but don’t know what to do—or you need a professional watching your form, progression, and individual needs—DM me “STRONG” or contact San Diego Strength and Wellness 323-420-5074. Let’s build strength that actually matters. 💪🔥 taken in San Diego Strength and Wellness by @sdstrengthandwellness

Everyone in this video is OVER 50. One is 70. 🔥

And they’re performing renegade rows with near-perfect form while outperforming many people half their age.

They look like an upper-body exercise, but your core will be on FIRE. 🔥

Renegade rows build strength, anti-rotation stability, balance, coordination and serious body control.

This is what training for longevity looks like.

At San Diego Strength & Wellness, we’ve been coaching EastLake since 2010. We’re the original personal training facility in the community — and we’ll let our five-star reviews speak for us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Age doesn’t mean stop training hard.
It means train smarter.

Want to learn movements like this the right way?

We had a great team win last week against Grossmont. I am still learning a lot, but last week I learned that it's small moments that count. All the time I spend preparing makes me ready when I have an opportunity. I won't always be the first contact on a PR from. The line but I have to be ready when it happens. Thank you Coach @ben_landry_ for making sure I'm always ready. Thank you to my coaches at Otay Ranch High School for every opportunity. I am always working hard to be better the n xt day.

PARENTS OF DANCERS: FLEXIBILITY ISN’T ENOUGH! 💃🏽🔥

A strong dancer needs more than beautiful technique.

💪 Strength → power & control
⚖️ Balance → stability & coordination
🧘🏽‍♀️ Mobility → better movement & range of motion

Training these areas helps young dancers become stronger, more confident, and more prepared for the demands of dance.

✨ Don’t just train the dancer. Train the ATHLETE behind the dancer.

Strong body. Better control. Better dancing. ❤️‍🔥

Coach mommy gave mini a strenght , balance and flexibility session using my old dancing tricks into practice , and we discovered more areas of improvement !
We are in competition season and we are getting better everyday 👌

🔥 KAREN HAS BETTER LATERAL LUNGE FORM THAN ME… AND PROBABLY 99% OF THE WORLD! 🌎💪

And you know what? I LOVE IT!

Karen has a unique combination of anatomy, natural mobility, and strength developed through consistent training that allows her to execute this movement beautifully. She’s also built exceptionally well for heavy presses!

But here’s the lesson I want EVERYONE in the fitness community to understand. 👇

Your body was never meant to be a copy of someone else’s.

We all have different limb lengths, joint structures, mobility, strengths, and natural abilities. What comes easily to one person might take years of practice for another.

And that’s perfectly fine!

The goal isn’t to become the strongest, fastest, or most flexible person in the room.

The goal is to discover YOUR strengths, develop YOUR abilities, and become the strongest, most capable version of YOURSELF!

Stop comparing your body to someone else’s highlight reel. Start exploring what YOUR body is capable of achieving!

Karen is a perfect example of what happens when we recognize someone’s natural strengths and pair them with intelligent, consistent training. 🙌

NOW I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! 👇

💬 What fitness skill or movement comes naturally to YOU? Are you a natural at squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, mobility, or something completely different?

🔥 Drop your strongest movement in the comments!

❤️ Show Karen some love for that beautiful lateral lunge!

📲 SHARE this with someone who needs to stop comparing themselves to others and start embracing their own potential!

Your body is unique. Your strengths are unique. OWN THEM! 💪

Being strong is great. Being able to control your body through space is freedom.

When Raquel first came to me, simply getting down to the floor and back up was a major challenge. Now we’re building strength, stability, range of motion, and confidence in multiple directions.

And yes—that includes the BOSU ball.

It’s almost become trendy in fitness circles to bash the BOSU. But mature, highly competent coaches understand something simple:

Every piece of equipment is a tool in the toolbox.

The expertise is knowing when, why, and for whom to use it.

For Raquel’s goals, controlled instability can be an appropriate way to challenge balance, coordination, and her ability to manage her body in space. The goal isn’t to impress other coaches or prove how “hardcore” your training is.

The goal is to help the client.

Ten, twenty, thirty years from now, muscle will matter—but so will your ability to reach, rotate, stabilize, get down, get back up, and continue living independently.

Train for more than aesthetics.

Keep moving—and move well, my friends. 💪

We’re not chasing trends. We’re chasing YOUR potential.

At San Diego Strength & Wellness, we’ve specialized in one-on-one and small-group personal training since 2010?

Why have we stayed committed to this model for 16 years?

Because it works.

And when we say “the best results,” we’re not claiming to be better than every gym or every trainer.

We mean something more important:

The best results YOU are capable of achieving.

That means having a coach beside you who understands more than exercises—someone who understands movement, strength, programming, nutrition fundamentals, communication, accountability, and how to work with the human being standing in front of them.

We take the fundamentals, refine them, personalize them, and keep improving the process year after year.

No gimmicks.
No chasing every new fitness trend.
No reinventing the wheel just to make it look exciting.

Just steady, intelligent, individualized coaching built around helping you reach your highest level.

If you want the newest bell, whistle, or fitness fad, we’re probably not your gym.

But if you want a sturdy, time-tested coaching system backed by 16 years in the community, come see what we do at San Diego Strength & Wellness.

💪 Ready to find out what your best actually looks like?

🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET. 9/11/2001.

Today isn’t about politics. It isn’t about division. It’s about remembering.

We remember the innocent lives that were taken.
We remember the first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.
We remember the survivors who carried that day with them for the rest of their lives.
We remember the husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, friends, firefighters, police officers, paramedics and countless families whose lives changed forever.

There are still questions people carry about that day, and history will continue to be examined and debated. But one thing should never be lost in those conversations:

Real people died. Real families suffered. Real heroes answered the call.

25 years later, we remember them.

May we also remember how, in the aftermath, Americans stood beside one another—not as strangers divided by our differences, but as neighbors and fellow Americans.

Today, please SHARE this post. Not for likes. Not for an algorithm. Share it so another generation sees their faces, hears their stories, remembers their sacrifice, and understands why we promised:

NEVER FORGET. 🇺🇸

May the victims and the fallen rest in eternal peace. May God continue to comfort their families, the survivors, and all those who carry the scars of September 11th.

In the name of God, Amen. 🙏🇺🇸
