Students, you’ve been building the skills. Now it’s time to meet the people looking for them!

The Management, Economics and Communication Career Fair is coming up.:
📅 Oct. 27 | 1–4 p.m.
📍 Volstorff Ballroom, SDSU Student Union
📲Register on Handshake. Get all event details and employer information. More employers are being added in the coming weeks!

Whether you’re hunting for an internship, exploring career options, or just curious about what’s out there, this is your chance to meet employers, make connections, and see where your degree could take you. We encourage all students to attend!

With over a month to go, you have lots of time to prepare—here are some ideas:

🔹The resume.
First and foremost, update your resume. The Office of Career Development can help get you started, assist you with edits and additions. Last, hit up the Resume Blitz on Oct. 20 from 10am-2pm in the Harding Hall lobby to add the finishing touches!

🔹The look.
Figure out your business professional attire. Grab items from back home, swap clothes with a friend or family member, explore local thrift and consignment options or check out the Professional Closet in the Office of Career Development for a few free clothing options.

🔹The intro and more.
Practice your elevator pitch (out loud) and prepare questions. Yes, it can be awkward to talk about yourself, but it’s necessary and preparation does help! You can also research the companies in attendance (so far) through the Handshake platform to help you generate some questions and talking points for your interactions at the fair.

Come curious. Leave connected! 💼 taken in South Dakota State University by @sdsucojo

Make sure your resume is working for you, and not against you!

If the last time you updated your resume was senior year of high school ... it’s time for a refresh! Whether you’re looking for an internship, applying for scholarships, summer jobs, exploring career options, or getting ready for your first job or graduate school, a strong resume is essential.

Don’t let your resume be the reason you miss an opportunity. Not sure where to start? We have you covered. ☑️

First, SDSU’s Office of Career Development has several (FREE) resources to help with resume reviews, interview prep, and more. Explore online resources on Handshake in the Career Center tab. Stop in during their drop-in hours on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Union 136 or schedule an appointment on Handshake.

Next, stop by the Resume Blitz next week!
October 20
10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Harding Hall Lobby
Bring a copy of your resume and get help making it stand out (in a good way). 👀

Last, be sure to join us for the Management, Economics & Communication Career Fair at the end of the month!
October 27
1 p.m.-4 p.m.
Volstorff Ballroom, Union
Register on Handshake

Don’t wait until you need a resume to work on it. Take the first step now! Your future self will thank you. 🐰 by @sdsucojo

Last month, Professor Jenn Anderson co-led a symposium at the International Conference for Communication in Healthcare, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The symposium provided health practitioners with the tools to conduct theoretically-informed research to improve communication in healthcare. The symposium was organized by the ICA-EACH partnership group, which brings together researchers from the International Communication Association Health Communication Division and the European Association for Communication in Healthcare.

Great work, Professor Anderson! 🗣️🩺 taken in South Dakota State University by @sdsucojo

Yesterday, we were proud to see COJO faculty take part in the 2026 Hendrickson Cheever Liberal Arts Lecture. Professor Marina Hendricks served as moderator, and Assistant Professor Andrea Carlile was among this year’s honored faculty.

The topic, “Saving the Idea of the University: Preserving the True Meaning of a Liberal Education,” brought together faculty from across the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for a thoughtful dialogue.

Thank you, Dr. Hendricks and Dr. Carlile! taken in South Dakota State University by @sdsucojo

Big news!

Five School of Communication & Journalism students have been selected to participate in a professional certificate program focused on search engine optimization (SEO). Thanks to the support of our partners at Click Rain, Inc., these students will gain additional training and real-world insight into one of the most important areas of digital communication. Rooted in community, committed to truth.🗞️

2026 marks the 86th celebration of National Newspaper Week, where we celebrate the newspaper industry in the United States and Canada.

Great journalism starts with curiosity, asking questions and telling stories that matter.

In COJO, our journalism students put their skills into action through hands-on experiences with The Collegian weekly newspaper. Students report on the people, stories, and issues that shape our campus community.

Here’s to student journalists today and the storytellers of tomorrow. Happy National Newspaper Week! 📣 taken in South Dakota State University by @sdsucojo
