Eight years ago, when I was 18, I dreamed of my 26-year-old self. She had short silver hair.

In the dream, an old witch instructed me to tie 26 knots in a red string, fasten it to a Y-shaped sycamore twig, and attach the twig to a bike. If I completed the ritual, I would meet my 26-year-old self.

I did what she asked, and a young woman with short silver hair appeared.

Then the witch took away the twig. The silver-haired girl disappeared. Because I was lucid dreaming, I asked how to find both of them again. The witch told me to go to a place called “chase up shop” and repeat the ritual there.

This year, at the end of age 26, I finally packed up the courage to dye and cut my hair that had remained untouched for eight years in anticipation of this. I found a sycamore twig like the one I dreamed, came across the perfectly accurate red string by pure chance, went to the only place in the greater NYC area that contained the words “chase up”, rented a Citi Bike, and carried out the ritual.

As I stood in the strong summer gusts of Jersey City, no magical old witch showed up, but I guess in that very moment I did meet the other character anyway. She was myself as someone I‘ve never known before, half-remembered, half-invented.

With the collaboration of my younger self, across eight years, we finally completed a dreamed ritual.

The strange thing is that this story briefly existed as a poster before it existed in real life.

Last year, I made Dream Citation in anticipation of finally completing the ritual the following year. The poster was later exhibited in Surface Anomaly at @nothingisreal_nothingisreal Gallery in Seoul, Korea, co-curated by @sojungyoon and @newlyformed_official . Only two weeks ago right before I turn 27 did I actually go out and do the thing. 💇🏼‍♀️👩🏻‍🦳🪾🪢🚲 by @se.huan

🪟“One Day, I Reopened The Window and Smelled The Sunlight Inside”🪟

A hand-held riso zine that folds and opens like a window, inviting the viewer to look inside a mind, much like contemplating a sunset by the windowsill. It features some of my own photography and quotes from Audre Lorde, John Berger, and thinkers alike. The zine encourages quiet moments of reflection, offering space to engage with both the external world and the inner realm. ☀️ by @se.huan

2025 was full of firsts🌪️ got an MFA (what the heck!), taught a class at RISD, moved to NYC and riding E-train every week, assembled a dresser all by myself, and way too many core memories for a fully developed brain.

Wrote and designed a graphic design review on one of my favorite sites on the internet, Cameron’s World, a website that archives the now-defunct GeoCities sites in early 2000s 💾 The center-aligned, single-column layout nods to the untamed, kitschy early vernacular HTML, with the main body typeset in Times New Roman and Comic Sans only. All GIFs sourced from Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

My first ever project at RISD earlier this semester @risd_gd

Here’s my contribution to Atlas, our cohorts‘ collaborative publication that maps out our position in situ and ex situ. My chapter discusses the concept of progressive nostalgia— an emotional state that anticipates feeling nostalgic for moments still unfolding in the present.
