Japan week 2

Biking with my dad! One of the highlights of this trip was riding behind my dad to see everyone's reactions. Little kids pointing and laughing, confusion from folks working in their gardens, locals asking questions. Still somewhat embarrassed by him but not entirely mortified so I guess I'm getting older? by @sea.devoe

Track race at the mountain! AKA @cirqueseries Crystal. So fun to sprint around mountains with some speedy folks!

- Wasn't prepared for the gun start...
- Snacks on the techy sections?
- The face of someone who got outleaned by 0.3 seconds.
- At least photos don't show the previous 10 seconds not realizing @somerrunner wanted a high five.

First time at UTMB week. OCC 2025 - 12F, first American.

OCC was loud. Confusing. Overwhelming.

But also fun. Wild. Fast. Competitive.

I made a lot of mistakes, but also did a lot of things right enough. And that got me to 18th with 10k left, feeling really good and ready to race on terrain that felt like home.

It's taken a while (oops) to figure out my thoughts but maybe posting immediately is too soon for me? Or maybe it's that I'm racing tomorrow...

Thank you to so many people - everyone racing and volunteers, Justin and Wes for terrible punny signs, my coach @therickfloyd for getting me through my biggest weeks of training ever, @barrett_gray and @blakeslat for extra gear, Alex at @terignota for last minute shorts to fit said extra gear, Valentine at the shoe store in Annecy for finding me what seemed like the last pair of prodigio pros in France, and so many people at home. 💚 by @sea.devoe

Three weeks in Annecy! French classes in the mornings, endless trails in the afternoons, Chamonix adventures on the weekends. Pretty special place to call home for a bit.

Broken Arrow 46k! Sea level lungs hung on for 11F but so freaking cool to run with such a strong field. Actually ate and drank for the first lap, got to meet my coach, caused some chaos for Brian crewing, and held on for a second lap through some pretty spectacular mountains.

So thankful everyone got down the mountain safely later and huge shout-out to everyone at @brokenarrowskyrace for making tough decisions when an isolated thunderstorm rolled in and dumped snow.

So fun (and painful) to see what full gas feels like for 27k at @leavenworthtrailfest! Thanks @scottsowle and @vertrunningseries for putting on a great race on some cruisey lovely trails. We were thinking a mandatory 15 second hold at the turnaround next year to take in the view?

Tigerclaw!!! What a special weekend. Six years ago I ran the full in what felt like my first real introduction to Seattle trail racing. This year, I ran the ascent on Friday and helped at the upper aid Saturday.

Too many good things but a few highlights - hometown advantage certainly helped in a crazy tight ascent race (the final descent and climb from 3 to 2!), spending time with college teammates and friends cruising back down WT3, Justin smiling his way through the full 50k including rolling a die to fully randomize his race, feeding him watermelon and oreos and cheez-its and even pickles, aid station giggles, and fully embracing my librarian role with some updated children's books.

DNF is weird. Especially when outcomes seemed good and only the "easy" parts were left. But it was also 100% the right decision? That was made from a lot of little decisions that weren't 100% wrong?

Hypothermia, underestimating weather, lack of fueling and hydration, not taking time to properly troubleshoot.

But the overall feeling is the same as last year - overwhelming gratitude.

For volunteers from Houston who got me back, for everyone on course making it impossible not to smile, for Krissy and the medical team who got me into warm clothes, for Kristina and Tara and Corrine who sat with me in the back of a van for over an hour until I stopped shivering, for my coach who got me through my biggest weeks of training ever, for Joe and Blake for crewing, and for Jade and Sarah and Barrett and everyone out there for company through a wild run!!

Chuckanut, you're special 💚

Iceland! 💙💙💙

Such an amazing trip. So many more places to explore. When Justin told me a month ago he possibly maybe found a race that perfectly lined up with our trip, I rolled my eyes. But also... if we're already in Iceland, why not???

So so so cool. Loved getting to experience all of this, even if the views were slightly obscured. Even more wild when we came back to Vík a few days later and could actually see where we raced! So thankful to have @andreakolbeins to follow through the clouds before flying down the cliffs! Switchbacks? What are those??

And the whole team and volunteers at @myrdalshlaup - thank you! Loved hearing the cowbells and music through the fog.

Also, pretty cool when the president races the 10k and hands out awards?!
