Two older adults have died following a devastating two-alarm house fire in Monte Sereno early Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026. According to the Santa Clara County Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 2:04 a.m. to a reported structure fire at a two-story residence in the 17000 block of Rose Court, near Rose Drive. Crews arrived within minutes and encountered heavy fire, with flames already burning through the roof of the home. Firefighters reportedly faced difficult access to the residence because of obstructions, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a second alarm, ultimately bringing approximately 40 firefighters and 10 fire apparatus to the scene. Despite the dangerous conditions, crews entered the burning home and conducted a rapid search, locating two older adults trapped inside. Both victims were rescued and transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals but they unfortunately later succumbed from their injuries. Firefighters reported the main body of the fire knocked down at approximately 2:33 a.m. The victims’ identities have not yet been publicly released. The cause and origin of the deadly blaze remain under investigation by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and the Santa Clara County Fire Investigation Taskforce. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire as the Monte Sereno community mourns the loss of two residents.

A video circulating involving a manager at Normandy House Lounge shows an interaction with a paying customer that includes language many may find deeply offensive and antisemitic. People in the community deserve to know how customers are treated and should be able to decide for themselves where they choose to spend their money.
@normandyhousebar @thirsty.bar.sc
Those who are disturbed by what they see and hear in this video may want to consider supporting other local establishments instead of Normandy House Lounge, Thirsty Bar, and Sir Froggy’s Pub. (All under same ownership.) There are plenty of local businesses that value their customers and work to create welcoming environments for everyone. Watch the video. Listen to what is said. Make your own decision about who deserves your support. No customer should have to experience hateful or discriminatory language while patronizing a business. by @seaside_foo
