Vintage 2026 has been an accelerated growing season, marked by mild to warm conditions and the earliest harvest ever recorded at our Estate Vineyard.

Despite the pace, conditions remained remarkably favorable throughout the season, resulting in fruit with excellent consistency and ripeness. The wines are already showing bright natural acidity, beautiful aromatics, and a graceful, feminine profile, with exceptional balance and purity that suggest they will reveal their character early while still delivering the depth and quality that define Sea Smoke. - Sandy Matthews, Director of Vineyards taken in Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara, California by @seasmoke

Stewardship extends beyond the vine. Chickens, cattle, goats, and sheep play an important role in the biodiversity of our estate, contributing to the balance and vitality of the land throughout the seasons. by @seasmoke

As we enter the earliest harvest on record in the Sta. Rita Hills, our Director of Vineyards, Sandy Matthews, is excited by what lies ahead. The 2026 vintage is already showing balance, vibrant natural acidity, and an accelerated pace unlike any season in his 12+ years farming the region.

In his hands are samples of Botella soil and limestone, two defining elements of our estate vineyards. Together, they help shape wines of exceptional complexity, energy, and a true expression of place. by @seasmoke

Botella Chardonnay reflects the mineral-rich soils of our Estate Vineyard and neighboring Sta. Rita Hills sites, where south-facing slopes meet warm sun and cooling marine fog. This slow, balanced growing season allows for extended hang time, yielding a wine that is quietly complex, elegantly textured, and expressive of its coastal origins.

The palate of Botella Chardonnay is immediately fresh and sophisticated, with Meyer lemon and caramelized figs layered with pie crust and cardamom spice. Warm and richly textured, it finishes with a pleasant freshness. Now available for purchase. by @seasmoke

Sealed with intention.

The closing of our 2024 Allocation marks a vintage shaped by a long, cool Sta. Rita Hills season — one that allowed the wines to develop with vibrancy and tension.

As with harvest, timing matters. Some things are worth holding until the moment is right, and then, shared.

Stay tuned. by @seasmoke

It is Biochar season again! The recent rains allowed us to obtain a burn permit to make biochar….which is then added to our Biodynamic compost piles. Biochar has an amazing amount of surface area and porosity, helping our soils retain water and nutrients for use by our cover crop and vines throughout the year. taken in Sta Rita Hills Ava by @seasmoke
