As a student photographer on the school paper, I was the only photographer shooting film. I’ll never forget the day a fellow photographer told me I should get a digital camera because “film is dead.”

After finishing that assignment, I went straight home and googled: “Is film dead?”

And there was @jonathancanlas, loudly proclaiming Film Is Not Dead—and backing it up with his workshops.

I desperately wanted to go to one, but as a broke college student, it was out of the question. So I settled for his book when it came out a few years later.

Fast forward to 2023, when I finally went on my first @filmschoolroadtrip, led by @jonathancanlas and his team at @thefindlab.

I’m still on this film journey because film is very much alive.

Thanks for not letting us forget, Jon.

Happy birthday 🥳

Abuelo,

Te amo. taken in Puerto Rico by @seatell

In the shadow of the Canadian Rockies, among frozen falls and ancient stone, Johnston Canyon revealed the quiet majesty of an Albertan winter.
