Fall has officially arrived in Seattle.

And somehow the city already feels different.

The light sits a little lower.

The mornings feel cooler.

The trees around Seattle Center are starting to turn.

And that warm late-season glow hits the Space Needle in a way that only happens for a few short weeks.

This is the Seattle season I wait for all year.

ㅤ
That little window when summer hasn’t completely disappeared yet…

but fall has clearly moved in.

Golden light over Elliott Bay.

Burnt orange trees around the Needle.

Cool air coming off the water.

Seattle is getting moody.

ㅤ
You can feel the season changing up here.

The mornings are darker.

The evenings are coming sooner.

The air is getting cooler.

And that warm late-summer light is starting to hit the city a little differently.

This is the part of the year when Seattle starts leaning into its moody side.

Cloudier skies.

Longer shadows.

Coffee weather.

Jacket weather.

The kind of evenings where the Space Needle catches one last piece of light while downtown disappears into the dark.

Summer had its moment.

Now the cozy season is knocking.

ㅤ
And honestly?

Seattle wears it pretty damn well.

Seattle is about to look like this again.

Labor Day Weekend always feels like that little line in the sand up here.

Summer’s still hanging on…

but fall is already waiting in the wings.

Soon these Seattle neighborhoods start turning red, orange and gold, the air gets a little sharper, and the city somehow feels quieter.

ㅤ
Houseboats on the water.

Tree-lined hills lighting up.

And the Space Needle peeking over it all like it’s been there forever.

ㅤ
This might be my favorite version of Seattle.

Not summer.

Not quite fall.

Just that short little moment in between.

Seattle wakes up differently in late summer.

ㅤ
Those last August mornings when the city is still quiet, the air feels cool, and the first sunlight finally starts finding its way between the buildings.

ㅤ
One by one, the windows light up.

The Space Needle catches that first warm glow.

And for a few minutes, downtown Seattle looks like the whole city is slowly switching itself on.

ㅤ
No dramatic sunset.

No crazy weather.

Just morning light doing its thing.

ㅤ
Honestly, these are some of my favorite moments to photograph here.

The kind that make waking up way too early completely worth it.

Only three months.

And somehow an entire city changes.

ㅤ
Summer quietly fades away.

The air gets crisp.

The mornings smell like cedar and fresh coffee.

Every street starts glowing in shades of amber, gold and crimson.

This is the Seattle I wait for every single year.

Not because it’s louder.

Because it slows everything down.

ㅤ
People always ask me when the best time to visit Seattle is.

My answer never changes:

Fall.

When Mount Rainier watches over the city, the leaves catch fire, and every neighborhood suddenly feels like it’s straight out of a movie.

This is the season that made me fall in love with the Emerald City.

And somehow...

it gets even more beautiful every year.

The Space Needle starts glowing, Mount Rainier quietly takes over the horizon, and for a few minutes the whole city feels like it was built for moments exactly like this.

With the FIFA World Cup coming to Seattle, millions of people are about to discover what locals already know:

Most people think Seattle is all gray skies and rain.

And honestly?

I used to think the same thing.

Then one morning the clouds lit up like someone spilled neon paint across the entire sky.

Rainier was out.

The city was glowing.

And for a few minutes, Seattle looked more like a dream than a place.

That’s the thing about this city.

You can spend weeks waiting through fog, rain, and low clouds…

then suddenly it gives you a sunrise like this and reminds you exactly why people fall in love with the Pacific Northwest.

Seattle doesn’t show off every day.

But when it does?

It really doesn’t play fair.

Most people forget Seattle looks like this.

Not because it isn’t beautiful.

Because most days, it hides.

You spend weeks looking at weather forecasts.

Checking cloud cover.

Watching one promising sunrise after another disappear behind a gray wall.

And then one morning…

Seattle decides to remind you why you keep showing up.

The city is still quiet.

The lights are still on.

Rainier slowly starts appearing through the haze.

And for a few minutes, it feels like the entire Pacific Northwest is waking up together.

Those moments never last long.
