I’ve just finished this 160m2 mural in Lupinu, a low income neighbourhood of Bastia Corsica. A local retired woman chose the word « LuceĀ Ā» which means « LightĀ Ā» in Corsican. I love this word as my work is all about shining a light on communities that live in the shadows.

For the first couple of days I explored the city, met locals and took pictures of flora, architecture and other details. I then started on the structure of the mural with a general idea of what I wanted to paint. The different patterns are inspired by local churches, palm trees, pink laurel flowers, the Mediterranean sea, etc… Since I was given the word « LightĀ Ā», I placed a yellow sun in the centre of the mural, a symbol I took from pebble paving in Bastia’s high street.

I’m very grateful for @unavoltabastia ā€˜s perfect organisation! It was an absolute pleasure to be working with Juana and her team again! Thank you to @leonor_husson for the great company, her pictures and videos! And of course, I want to thank the supportive population of Lupinu who welcomed the first large-scale mural in their neighbourhood. šŸ™

What can football, street art, and refugee communities teach us about universal human connections?

Here are 5 moments from our conversation with @sebtoussaint International muralist and a superhero that uses arts to heal and empower underserved communities.

Seb is a French-British Artist, and the founder of Share The Word, a project that has created more than 250 murals across 20+ countries, often alongside communities, refugee camps, and other underserved settlements whose stories rarely reach the outside world.

Using football, art, talent, and ever-growing friendships, Seb shared with us memorable stories, and a piece of advice that stayed with him since his first cycling trip around the world: ā€œdon’t be too carefulā€

Seb also shares a refreshing perspective on creativity, risk, travel, and the real power of public art.

We also explore how murals can do much more than transform walls: they can create visibility, start conversations, strengthen communities, and give people a way to tell their own story.

Just posting a few pictures from the latest episode of Share The Word Project in Bauleni, Lusaka, Zambia. The project started exactly 13 years ago when I decided to spend one month in a low income neighbourhood of Jakarta to paint words that people gave me. Since then, I have painted 256 murals on this project, each one containing one word, and always in slums and refugee camps. I self-fund the project with my commissioned murals and by selling my artwork. Therefore I’d like to thank the clients I’ve had this year and who made this possible.

I’d like to thank Dudu, my friend and assistant who’s been of a tremendous help for many years!

Thank you to Olivier and Cherna and the inhabitants of Bauleni for their very warm welcome in Zambia! We had a great time and would have loved to have carried on painting more houses!

I’m now back in Europe for a short break!

Jameson chose the word ā€œNzeruā€ (ā€œWisdomā€ in Nyanja). At 62, he is an old man in Bauleni, a low-income neighbourhood where the majority of people are under 18. He told me it’s the responsibility of the older people to share their wisdom to the youth and pass on their knowledge.

Here is a triptych I painted live at the French Embassy in Zambia. The word « DreamĀ Ā» was chosen by Thomas Rossignol, the ambassador. The live painting lasted almost 5 hours during the « FeĢ‚te NationaleĀ Ā» celebrations. Thank you to Thomas for the warm welcome! I really enjoyed the challenge! šŸ™

Miriam chose the word ā€œLesaā€ meaning ā€œgodā€ in Bemba. On this one I wanted to try using the same pattern in every zone. The aim is to make it look fully abstract at first but when looking closer, one can see the 4 letters. Can you read it?

Matiuda chose the word ā€œChisomoā€ (Mercy in Nyanja). She is a catholic and told me that she believes that god is merciful and forgiving. I started painting this wall on Sunday when many people were at church. For a large part of the day, I could hear an excellent choir and a band playing in a church just a few meters away! I love painting while listening to music, it definitely gave a vibe to the mural.
