LAKOU SEKRÈ // SAKRE has felt like the blooming of a seed//prayer that I swallowed//whispered years ago. I’m still taking in this flower//portal ~

the stretch of my gratitudes is DEEP, so I’ll mention just a few here: @haiticulturalx thank you for the opportunity and the container through which to return the practice I’ve been cultivating to my community ~ to expand//deepen my craft and my community.

@natmarc.tif it feels like the universe was playing chess when it crossed our paths and somehow everybody won! I’m so grateful for the reflection of these questions through your medium. thank you for your practice and collaboration 📸

my Lakou Nou Cohort @hat5hep5ut @tanialaure @artofmere_ . we did it y’all 🥹 it’s truly been an honour to move through this work alongside y’all’s brilliance, artistry, and care for your Lakou’s. I’m inspired by the ways you carry Ayiti with you.

and always always, shout out to my ancestors ~ I’m grateful for the ways you press my prayers between your palms, then blow the back into my life, dandelion seeds steadfast as shooting stars.

Announcement! 🐚 l’m so excited to share this interview call for Lakou Nou La! This project is an extension and deepening of my @secondgenders practice, focusing in on the queer and trans, Haitian diasporic experience. I know from my own experience that we’re wondering a lot of the same things, so why not wonder together?

what meaning are you making of your cultural heritage and your trans embodiment? what cultures do you access your queerness from? how do you belong to the memory of your lakou?

If any of that sounds like a bit of you, ann pale! let me chat to ya real quick 😇 if it sounds like someone you know ~ absolutely hit that paper airplane and send it in their direction!

If you’re interested in sitting with me for a conversation, please fill out the form in the bio or at bit.ly/lakounoula . If you’re curious but have questions, the comments, my DMs and my email are open! 💌

thank you to @haiticulturalx for helping me facilitate this iteration of the work through the Lakou Nou Artist Residency! Nou La! 🇭🇹❤️‍🔥🏳️‍🌈

sooo this has been announced for a while, but I wanted to take a sec to document it for myself here : I’m a Lakou Nou Artist in Residence with @haiticulturalx ! And, of course, doing the good work of 2NDGENders 🙂‍↕️🧡

I’m particularly excited about this residency bc it’s an opportunity to focus in on my own culture and shared experience with other queer and trans, second gen Haitians, and an opportunity to ground this next season in place in a way I haven’t moved with this work before.

soooo catch us in Crown Heights through the spring! I’m eager eager eager to create spaces for us to gather at this intersection, for the portals that witnessing eachother will create ~ Nou La!

and since we’re documenting, I also wanted to share some archival (read: my camera roll) grabs of what doing this work quietly in the background, through connecting with myself, others, and through the container of grad school, has looked like:

2 ~ snapshot from an unreleased interview w/ Tochi 🌻 Fall ‘23
3 ~ snippet of me gushing post a virtual queer Haitian gathering hosted by @mythsooka Nov ‘23
4 ~ sitting in the park recording audio for an episode introducing myself a little more formally // unfortunately my laptop was stolen shortly after and I lost that audio July ‘24
5 ~ coworking with Egypt 🐈‍⬛ Nov ‘24
6 ~ time lapse of me curating an interactive archival box for a personal documentary project, spring ‘24 by @secondgenders
