SPS officially has items available @nextadventure! 🎉

With the closure of Lloyd Center Mall a ton of our customers lost access to the services they have come to rely on from SPS. 😭

Now we are able to continue to serve the Lloyd area thanks to the folks over @nextadventure. ❤️

Not only can you buy items you need, but you can also donate gently used items & Items that need to be cleaned will be picked up by our cleaning sponsor @spinlaundry! 🌀

Due to our move from @shoplloydcenter and unforeseen issues, our warehouse wasn't able to be as organized as we originally hoped! So, we need 8 to 10 volunteers to help streamline our inventory so we can better serve our community!

I had no idea Portland had a nonprofit thrift store just for pets until I found @secondhandpetsupply

Instead of pet supplies ending up in the landfill, they’re donated, professionally cleaned by Spin Eco Laundry Lounge @spinlaundry, and given a second life. The store is filled with gently used items for dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, birds, and other small animals, making it a great way to save money while supporting a more sustainable pet community.

One of my favorite parts was meeting Pumpkin, their 8-year-old, 30-pound Sulcata tortoise, who helps educate visitors about proper tortoise care. They also partner with the Washington Adoption Center for Retired Research Animals, so you can even adopt retired research mice and rats.

Secondhand Pet Supply also works with organizations like Oregon Dog Rescue, the Oregon Humane Society, Ridwell, the Oregon Convention Center, and Moda Center to reduce waste, upcycle materials into pet toys and dog jackets, and help get supplies to animals who need them most.

A special shout out to @oregonmetro who supports SPS by providing grant funding with the Reuse Inicitive Fund to ensure this resource remains available to those who need it most!

They even have around 30 donation drop-off locations across Portland, including Mama & Hapa’s on Mississippi and Spin Eco Laundry Lounge.

If you stop by on the 25th from 12–4 PM, they’ll have sliding-scale grooming, 10% off the entire store, and an extra 10% off if you bring a donation.

If your pet needs something new, consider shopping secondhand first!

Thanks @secondhandpetsupply for donating stuffies and tough toys to @multcopets shelter pups. These donations bring joy and comfort to the pups at the shelter. Cozy helped me sort through them after we gave them a wash—and I trimmed tags off. I even mended a few small holes. #supportshelteranimals #reduce #reuse #mcas by @secondhandpetsupply

SPS will be at Pup City for a 1.3K dog walk around the Rose Quarter campus, led by Blaze the Trail Cat and the Blazer Dancers.! 🎉

We will be collecting gently used CLEAN items at the game, so be sure to bring any items your pets no longer need! 💚

Have pet supplies you’re no longer using?

Fern & Fur is now a donation drop-off location for @secondhandpetsupply 🐾

They accept:
🐾 New items
🐾 Gently used items
🐾 Damaged items

They take nearly everything pet-related, with the exception of food that expired more than a year ago and expired medications.

It’s a simple way to keep pet supplies out of landfills while helping pets and people in our community.

For this month's District 1 spotlight, we got to know the team behind Secondhand Pet Supply @secondhandpetsupply which recently relocated to the Parkrose Plaza in NE Portland

Secondhand Pet Supply promotes reuse, upcycling and recycling within the pet industry. It accepts donations from the community–both individuals and business partners. Everything gets cleaned sustainability thanks to their cleaning sponsor, Spin Laundry Lounge @spinlaundry

"Approximately, we have diverted at least 100,000 pounds of waste from the landfill. This includes store displays and shelving that we have saved from being thrown away when companies have gone out of business!" shared Michael, the founder.

Rat enrichment volunteer needed! In the Portland, Oregon area? Love rats? Have a little extra time? If so, please consider volunteering for WACRRA at Secondhand Pet Supply!

WACRRA will be receiving female retired research rats who would benefit from a little extra enrichment (talking, petting, giving treats, holding et cetera) when fostered at Secondhand Pet Supply. We would need consistent volunteers who can give these little ladies a little extra love to help acclimate to life outside the laboratory and get ready for their forever homes.
