75th Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia

POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m proud to have the most talented, hardest-working cabinet in Virginia’s history. They are also the most diverse cabinet Virginia has ever seen.

Every single one of our cabinet secretaries were selected because they’re the best of the best in their respective fields. They also bring invaluable perspectives from across the Commonwealth — from Danville, Hampton Roads, Richmond, NOVA, and more.

I’m grateful to get to work with these incredibly dedicated, hard-working, and talented cabinet officials to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia. by @secretaryofthecommonwealth

As Virginians head to the polls today, I woke up with Senator Yvonne B. Miller heavy on my heart. The first Black woman elected to the General Assembly—less than 50 years ago. A champion for voting rights, education and humanity. She worked and prayed for a day like today. If you think your vote doesn’t matter, I dare you to look up her story and think again. You are part of something bigger and what you do today will change lives. #norfolkstateuniversity #virginiastateuniversity by @secretaryofthecommonwealth

I spent 16 years in prison. In 2021, @governorralphnortham restored my civil rights.

Today, I used the right he restored to vote YES on Question 3—so the Virginians who come after me will never have to ask a governor for that same right.

I’ve worked toward this for years. Getting to cast this vote is something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

But this work began long before me.

The late Senator Yvonne Miller fought for this change long before it seemed politically possible. She didn’t live to cast this vote, but her work helped make mine possible. Senator @senatorlocke carried that fight forward through years of setbacks.

I’m grateful to Governor Northam and @kellythomasson for restoring my rights; to Governors @bob.mcdonnell, @terrymcauliffe , @abigailspanberger. As well as @secretaryofthecommonwealth Candi Mundon King and @levarstoney for their work expanding restoration; and to the legislators, advocates like @mrsshebawilliams and formerly incarcerated Virginians who kept showing up, telling their stories and demanding change.

So many people helped bring us to this moment. It means everything to have a voice in it.

I voted YES because citizenship should never depend on who occupies the Governor’s Mansion.

That is not grace. That is citizenship. by @secretaryofthecommonwealth

Last night, over 250 people showed up for the first in a series of conversations to provide clarity on how to apply for pardons and clemency. We will continue to bring resources like this to the community. To see the new application, visit our website. by @secretaryofthecommonwealth

Comment “apply” to get a direct message to the application. We are looking for community and non-profit public servants interested in writing a new chapter for the Commonwealth! The Cannabis Equity Reinvestment Board (the Board) is established to directly address the impact of economic disinvestment, violence, and historical overuse of criminal justice responses to community and individual needs by providing resources to support local design and control of community-based responses to such impacts. Must be a Virginia resident. by @secretaryofthecommonwealth

Norfolk State University—the only college in America created during the Great Depression—is no stranger to finding JOY in the midst of anything. It was such a pleasure to experience #NYTHC with Governor Spanberger again. Watching the eyes light up from student, staff and alumni was worth all 35,000 steps. OUR Governor shows time and time again that she will show up, not just in times of joy, but she will show up for us on Capitol Square with historic funding and support. To all the haters, as @chanceelundy reminds us often: This joy that we have, the world didn’t give AND (fill in the blank if you know). #norfolkstateuniversity #norfolk #beholdthegreenandgold #hbcugameday by @secretaryofthecommonwealth

💚💛 From One Homecoming to the Next… What a Full-Circle Moment! 💚💛

Last year, we had the pleasure of walking the campus of @norfolkstateuniversity fellowshipping, connecting, and engaging with students, alumni, families, and friends.

Fast-forward to Homecoming 2026, and what a historic moment! 💚💛

This year, we had the honor of once again walking the campus alongside Her Excellency, Governor @abigailspanberger , Virginia’s FIRST woman governor, and my Soror from Portsmouth, our very own NSU Alumni Secretary of the Commonwealth, Candi Mundon King! ❤️🔺🐘

What a privilege to witness history while celebrating Spartan pride, community, and meaningful connections!

A special thank-you to Governor Spanberger and @secretaryofthecommonwealth for joining us at our Homecoming tailgate, taking time to fellowship with Virginians, and sharing in the excitement of this special weekend.

From making connections last year to walking alongside history this year—these are the moments that make Homecoming unforgettable!

💚💛 BEHOLD THE GREEN AND GOLD! 💚💛 Hey @kingrediam 🐶🔰

I had an an amazing time joining our illustrious Governor @abigailspanberger in celebration of homecoming with @officialvsutrojans! Thank you President @makolaabdullah and Dr. Cobb-Abdullah for the warm welcome, dancing and celebration of culture. A very special moment for me was running into VSU alumni, Dr. Linda B. Hayden. Dr. Hayden, a phenomenal researcher, scientist and educator, changed my life when she invited me on a college tour when I was 12 years old. She opened a world of opportunities for me. Seeing Dr. Hayden reminded me of the way we are all connected. So great to also see my phenomenal Sorors @repmcclellan @daunhester89 as well as Chairman Torian and @kimadamsfor_va ! by @secretaryofthecommonwealth
