Game:♟Voidfall Rating:⚃⚅/ 10 Number of plays in total: ⚀ Player count for this session: ⚂ FOUR L RETROSPECTIVE🃏 LIKED🎲 +Brilliant immersing and crunchy puzzle to solve each game. +Production value and table presence is beyond amazing. +Art is unique and refreshing for a space theme. +Tons of factions with lots of variable asymmetric abilities. +Huge replayablity factor. Lots of different scenarios for each player count and game mode. +At the start of every round you have all your actions available to you with the cards you can play. +I always love when games use corruption as a mechanism, allowing you to take crazy powerful actions but at a cost. +Delicious tension in the game with regards to always being on your toes. An attack can happen and destroy you if you miss calculate. +Deterministic combat, you never in for a suprise. +You control your own end of round scoring by the agenda cards you collect. +Game flows extremely smooth once you grasped the rules. LEARNED🎲 +This is a strategic euro game through and through with a flavoring of 4x. If you are looking for a space opera with randomness and tons of dice rolling this game is not for you. +You need to focus on maximizing your factions abilities to do well. +Collect technology cards that aid your faction is important. +You need to pivot your strategy each round to maximize extra scoring from the alert cards that comes up. LOATHED🎲 -Iconography overload with a steep learning curve. -Poorly designed shipstands. -Setup and teardown is painstakingly long. LONGED FOR🎲 -A glossary/reference sheet/player aid for each player. -Multiplayer specific scenerio goals would of been great. Instead of just maximizing your score. Game:♟Evenfall Rating: ⚁⚅/ 10 Number of plays in total: ⚀ Player count for this session: ⚀ FOUR L RETROSPECTIVE🃏 LIKED🎲 +Easy and streamlined gameplay. Everything is quite intuitive. +Gorgeous artwork and component's. +Nice synergy between cards causing good combos to unfold. +Plays really quickly and does not overstay its welcome. +The balance of the factions and cards seems reasonable. +I like that certain workers can perform certain actions. +Moving your cards from play area to the scoring area is cool. +How can you go wrong with multi use cards! LEARNED🎲 +The always score every tier you reached and everything below it after a battle is resolved. All plays score based on the value they reached. +/-Really easy to manage solo mode but very swingy due to its randomness. LOATHED🎲 -Card quality is a little on the thin side. -Could get a little repetitive after multiple gamesplays. -Very little player interaction compared to its counter parts. -Could be a bit of AP with all the various text on the cards. LONGED FOR🎲 -This game is crying for expansions from the getgo. The more factions the better. Game:♟Zhanguo: First Empire Rating: ⚂⚅ / 10 Number of plays: ⚀ Player count: ⚃ FOUR L RETROSPECTIVE🃏 LIKED🎲 +Tons of variability to keep the game fresh. + Essentially you choosing your own end game scoring. +Multiple strategies to focus on each game. Each action feel very distinct. +Very unique way in which turn order is decided each round. +The theme really comes throughout the gameplay. +Managing the unrest in a region is really crucial it can essentially stop you from getting bonus actions if you are not mindful. +When taking an action the number of the card really matters based on a previous card which was played. It allow you to trigger bonus actions. This subtle mechanism creates alot of tension throughout the game. LEARNED🎲 +It seemed like getting bonus actions that give you points for triggering certain colour cards are quite powerful. +Reminds of a old school euros where you need to do a little of everything but focus on a few things to score well. LOATHED🎲 -I may be the minority on this one but I don't feel the changes are enough in the game for making it a new editions. -The sailing action seemed really important early game as it helped sets up your tableu much quicker than taking whole action to place a card down from your hand. LONGED FOR🎲 -I wouldn't of minded a little more bling. Good production but all the pieces felt dated. Game:♟Iki Rating: ⚂⚅ / 10 Number of plays: ⚀ Player count: ⚂ FOUR L RETROSPECTIVE🃏 LIKED🎲 +Pure clean elegant gameplay. Everything is so simplistic. +Turns move swiftly. +Tons of end game scoring options, allowing the player multiple paths to victory. +Game is broken into multiple seasons. Where at end of the season your workers get more "powerful" and could retire to give you an ongoing benefit. +Picking your movement speed which is essential the turn order for the round is really cool. +Stunning artwork and presentation. +Cool take on a rondel system as your workers can only move in move direction to take actions. +Fantastic player board. It holds basically all your items collected during the game but also functions as a player aid. LEARNED🎲 +You might not be blocked out of an action but you could be blocked out of the movement to get to that action spot. Turn order is very critical in this game. +A money engine seems like the most viable way to do everything you need too. Thus hiring people who gives you a lot of money is a good way forward. LOATHED🎲 -I didn't really care for the fire mechanism in the game where once per season your hired staff could be burnt. Thematically it makes sense but loosing one of your cards is harsh. -I spent all game not acquiring one extra movement token and did well. Not sure how valuable that resources really is. -The feeding your worker aspect felt a little bland, each turns was great until you remembered that you need food to feed your workers. LONGED FOR🎲 -More variety of different building options to purchase would of been great. - Buildings and market cards just randomly lays on the table with there was a board to keep it neat. Game:♟The Red Cathedral Rating: ⚁⚅/ 10 Number of plays in total: ⚀ Player count for this session: ⚀ FOUR L RETROSPECTIVE🃏 LIKED🎲 +Crunchy experience played under an hour. +Presentation and component's are top notch. +Replayablity is good, lots of variable setup. +Simplistic actions but are all meaningful. Such a clever take on a dice rondel system. +The duel victory point currency is neat. +Solo AI is intuitive and easy to manage. +Great shelf saver! Tiny package that has alot of gameplay. LEARNED🎲 +Upgrading your dice slots is very import, it essentially gives you another free action on your turn. +You can always build on your opponents structures if you need snatch majority scoring in a particular column. LOATHED🎲 -The area control aspect is a little too pedestrian and uninspiring. -Solo AI is not challenging at all. LONGED FOR🎲 -This is probably a me problem, but sometimes I completely forget what dice I moved due to all the moving parts happening in the game. So maybe an area to place your moved dice and then slide it back into position once you complete your turn (guess i could house rule it).
