Grateful for a successful opening night of the @comfiart #DesignAndMuse Season 6 cohort group art show. I’ve been wanting to make my art more accessible for a while now, and building this pilot line of illustrated products has given me the opportunity to create more ways to get my art in the hands of the people. I’m appreciative of friends, family and new faces who came out for the experience. If you weren’t able to make it and would still like to see it and shop, let me know to set up a visit. This past weeekend, I led my first art instruction session as a @paintlove artist cohort member. My assignment for this session was with @wildernessworks , an amazing organization in the city that works with youth who may be economically disadvantaged. I wanted to provide an opportunity for the students to experience working with my chosen media of charcoal and pastel while creating what I call “vision portraits,” that allow them an outlet to express how they wanted to see themselves at some point in the future using an outline of a human head. They were then able to further personalize their portraits with cut out collage elements. It was fascinating to me to see how the youth engaged with the project through their eyes, and I gained some valuable insights as to how to tweak the instructions for the next group that I work with. Working in charcoal and pastels can get messy, but once you learn how to work the resource, you can end up with a satisfying work of art. Overall, it seems like the youth enjoyed the experience of making art and I look forward to continuing on grow as an instructor and facilitator of these experiences. #paintlove #seejoneswork by @seejoneswork

May is here and we did a new thing! @seejonescreative is proud to serve as a 2024 sponsor for the #LindmoorWoods Tiger Sharks youth swim team! I designed new logos for this year’s swim gear and duathlon and was happy to attend the team’s open house this past weekend and do some live art by the pool. It was great meeting some of the neighborhood parents and youth and I look forward to cheering them on in the upcoming season. It’s always good to come home, and the Urban League is one of my homes. Thank you to the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals ( @ulgayp ) for having me as a panelist for tonight’s Art & Advocacy event at @mintatl gallery. I count it an honor and privilege to be able to share my story and perspective on how creatives can and are using their gifts to make an impact, raise awareness, empower movements, and serve as the soundtrack/visual record for the causes we believe in. I hope that something I said resonated with someone in the audience and inspires them with a spark to take positive action. Well, it’s gearing up to be a winning season! Last year, I vocalized that I wanted to teach art and I had a few opportunities to do that. Now, I can publicly announce that I’ve been accepted into 2024 Artist Cohort for @paintlove , where I will be able to gain teaching experience and training to facilitate creative community projects in my medium of choice with various populations and ages as well as serve as a mentor to an emerging teen artist. December can be a rough month for many people—myself included. Earlier this year, my friend’s wife transitioned after a battle with illness. When I was asked if could create a tribute work of art in her memory as a Christmas gift to the family, I knew I had to make sure that it did her justice - I wanted it to embody the beauty of her spirit and connect with her loved ones when they saw it. In trying to capture the subject’s essence, I found a renewed artistic focus that allowed me to push myself during this process a bit more than usual (and I hope that it shows). While I initially intended to deliver the art and be on my way, I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to break bread with the family and be present when it was unveiled at their holiday dinner and see their reception for myself. Although I’m dealing with my own December grief, it felt good to be able to pay homage to the memory of someone who was clearly a bright light to so many. This proud #VFL went back to Rocky Top for Homecoming this past weekend, but honestly, one of my biggest highlights was getting to return to the @uunik_academy STEAMI Institute and work with the students again for Part 2 of our art instruction series. Some of the kids said they played sports, so I tried to impart that artists need to exercise and workout their muscles too as we worked on mark making with different media on paper. We also talked about depth and perspective, and the students practiced the concepts by drawing found objects from their respective vantage points.
