POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It occurred to me that I haven’t written an official post about my injury & since this is a running account, I probably should. Plus, I’ve had a really hard time finding other people’s stories about it. I’ve given updates via my stories, but those don’t last. So here goes…in Feb I started feeling pain in my right shin. It was dull so as runners do, I ignored it, although I had never felt shin pain in my running life, so it was odd. I even PRed my half & was feeling really strong. As I started to increase mileage for London, the pain started to get worse. A huge clue was that it did not dissipate as I ran. I could feel it the whole time. On March 14, I was running 16 miles & it stopped me in my tracks. I spent the rest of the day on ice w a limp. I still eeked out first place in the Beer Mile that evening b/c why not? The limp & ice still weren’t good enough signs for me. I took Sunday/Monday off & thought, “Gee, track sounds like a good idea, let me go try it on Tuesday morning (3/17). I ran 4 miles w an altered gait & had to stop. I knew then something was wrong. I immediately went to urgent care. X-Ray showed no fracture so London, here I come! Tried running a few days later, game over! Btw…the pain was sharp & localized, meaning I could point to the exact spot of pain. It was swollen & I had to take ibuprofen to sleep, all signs of a fracture, but I was still in denial. Saw my PCP who did not think it was a fracture b/c I had another X-Ray, but she ordered an MRI to rule it out. Did my MRI on 4/3 (happy birthday to me) & it came back as a grade 4a Fredericson stress injury in my right shin (medial tibia)…it’s a complicated way of saying stress fracture. At this point, I was no longer limping, but I could feel pain when I walked. I should’ve been in a boot! So, I had to defer London (thank God I could or I would’ve walked it). As of this post, I am still not running (going on 14 weeks). I had to cancel 2 other races so at this point, the last thing I want to do is rush back & have a set back. As someone who lacks patience, I’m really surprised by how patient I’ve been. Continued in comments… by @seeleftyrun

I crossed the finish line of the Ventura Half Marathon on 2/22/26! This race is one of my favorites. The weather's always perfect, the course is scenic, and the logistics are a breeze. Plus, the beer garden and food afterwards are a major bonus. I went in feeling relaxed after a laid-back training season, focusing on recovery and not pushing myself too hard. My strategy paid off, and I was able to shave 11 seconds off my time from last year, finishing in 1:44:24 (7:56 avg). It was amazing to share the experience with my husband Dan and friends, many of whom PR'd as well. Watching them grind and achieve their goals is just as motivating as achieving my own. I'm thrilled with my run and already thinking about next year! by @seeleftyrun

I’m a little behind on this post. I ran the “Run Like It’s Recess” 5k at the end of January ‘26. I run it every year & the proceeds go to a local school, so it’s a good cause. This is the park I always run in so I know this course like the back of my hand. I finished in 23:54, 7:40 pace. I was 1st in my 40-49 a/g. It’s always great to place in my age group. by @seeleftyrun

Well, I finally took the plunge and completed my first 50k (31 miles), at the Avalon 50/50. Running an ultra has always been a goal of mine, and I heard this was the one to do. My journey to the starting line was quite the adventure because all boats to Catalina on Thurs were cancelled due to high winds, so I had to take a helicopter. Yes, you read that right, a helicopter! I don’t consider myself to be bougie, but desperate times call for desperate measures. My husband rushed home from work to get me there on time. As I boarded the helicopter, I couldn’t help but think of Kobe and Aaliyah. Fortunately, I arrived safely, but not before making sure they weighed my luggage & me multiple times. After finishing Chicago in October, I felt like I had another 10k in the tank (not the way you want to finish a marathon), but it was great data for my ultra. I knew I could complete it with my longest run being “only” 16 miles. I set a goal of under 7 hours, considering the 5,000 ft gain and the last 3 miles being downhill. I decided to speed walk the ups, jog the flats, and run the downs, which worked out perfectly. I finished in 6:33, loving every minute of it. The scenery was breathtaking, and although it was hard, it was much more relaxed than a road marathon. At one aid station, the volunteers said, “Congratulations, you just hit 26.2.” I hadn’t realized I was that far along. I fueled with gels every 3 miles and had NeverSecond powder in my hydration pack. Having friends in the race made it even better. Three of them did the 50 miler, something I have zero desire to do. Ultras are a great lesson in training by effort, not by time. I will definitely be back next year. If you’re ever feeling down about the state of the world, run an ultra. I may have to run one every weekend! Of course I added the group shot w my eyes closed.😂. I had 5 others w them open. Oh well… by @seeleftyrun

It occurred to me that I never shared about the 2025 Seal Beach Turkey Trot. I race this almost every year both trained & untrained. It is a “staple” 10k race for me (SB Turkey Trot, Lakewood 10k, Wrigley River 10k & La Palma 10k). I’ve been struggling w pace oriented goals since Boston ‘24. I spent from 2017-2022 trying to qualify & run Boston. I had the privilege of running it in ‘23 & ‘24, but I am a person who has to put my entire being into it to qualify. I am not a naturally talented runner & although I’ve burned out on the chase of a time, I’ve realized that I haven’t burned out on running. If I didn’t run, I probably wouldn’t see most of my friends so, I keep going! Almost didn’t run this because I didn’t want the evidence that I’m not as “fast” as I once was, but I still showed up & gave it my all to see what I had. 50:03, 4th in a/g, 12 seconds “slower” than last year. Good news is I was about 4min from 3rd. It’s still important to show up for yourself because you never know what could be if you don’t go for it. So, I’ll just keep going for it. When I’m done chasing World Majors (2 left), I’ll chase the 5/10k. by @seeleftyrun

I’ve told this story many times, but I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2007; the year it was canceled mid-race due to extreme heat and humidity. Two and a half hours in, runners who hadn’t reached halfway were stopped and bussed back. Those who continued had to walk because the medical tents and hospitals were overwhelmed.

I’d made it past the halfway mark and finished in 5:15, exhausted and disappointed. To add insult to injury, they turned off the clocks, yet published everyone’s time.

Today was my redemption run. When I hit the halfway point, I was overcome with emotion, finally having the experience I wanted 18 years ago; strong, grateful, and fully present.

Someone asked if the course had changed, and I couldn’t remember. All I recalled were the sounds of ambulances. But today, I made new memories and loved every minute of it. Official time: 3:55:03 by @seeleftyrun

So much fun at today’s La Palma 4th of July 10k. It may have been a PR for me. I’ll never know because they changed the course this year & it was short. My official finish time was 47:42 w a 7:40 pace, but the course was 6.04 instead of 6.2🤷‍♀️. Without the wizardry of Garmin, I’d never know. 1st in my A/G & it was great seeing my Team Runners High & AREC (A Running Experience Club) friends. The new Pumas are awesome! by @seeleftyrun

Nike After Dark Women’s Half was a lot of fun. What made this race particularly special was running amongst women & most importantly, my friends. I believe the purpose was women should feel safe running in the dark & I’ll admit, unless I’m w a friend, I rarely do. Despite that, there were still men who not only ran it, raced it & I was annoyed by that, but I digress…The pros: Experiencing it with friends, Dan worked it, great support on the course, the swag & the Doechii concert after. The cons: The packet pick-up took an entire day, the race started 15 min late, Doechii didn’t play “Anxiety”, I couldn’t get a post-race beer in the venue & there were 3 false finishes🤣. I finished in 1:53 & some change & I really enjoyed running through Inglewood at night w the 405s Long Beach freeway onramp. It was quite the adventure! #nikeafterdarktour2025 by @seeleftyrun

I just occurred to me that I never did a recap of the OC Half Marathon I ran on 5/4/25. I finished in 1:54 & some change. Far from my best & far from my worst. I’ve ran this course about 5x & the last time I raced it was in 2022 & at that time I ran it in 1:53:xx. I believe my fastest was a 1:52:xx. I was HOPING to run a sub 1:50. Did I train for that? No. Did I really go for it? No. Was I in shape for it? Probably not. Lately, when it comes to “racing” if things don’t fall into place while I’m out there, I just don’t have the desire to fight for it. I want the paces to come naturally. I don’t want to fight for it or push too hard for it. It’s just not that important to me right now. I want to get better, but I’m not really doing the work to improve because I know how hard it is & there’s too much hard right now. I don’t really need one more hard thing on my plate. I want to exercise to feel good, but half-assed failed attempts make me feel bad. So, I’m stuck. I have to change my expectations & decide this is where I am right now or I need to become hyper scheduled & committed. The desire just isn’t there. So, I walked away w a 1:54. It’s mediocre just like my lack-luster training has been. I’ll be training for Chicago soon & I’m not really sure where my head is at for that other than it hates summer training. When I was training for Berlin last summer I said, “Never again will I train in the summer for a fall marathon” yet somehow, here I am. A lot of my social connections are through running so that’s what keeps me going right now. The OC half is not cheap. It’s about $180-200 depending on when you register. Plus, there’s a $12 parking fee to pick up your bib & a $12 fee if you park at the finish. It is a point-to-point course. I think this is ridiculous. I did get my registration for free from my run club @team_runners_high. So did my husband.👏 It took us awhile to park & then use the porta potties. I was supposed to be in corral B, but due to the long bathroom line, ended up in D & didn’t want to shove ahead. It was crowded where I started, but not enough to contribute to the lack luster finish. Despite the exorbitant fees, I do love the course & the vibe. by @seeleftyrun

Course PR for me (50:11, 8:05 pace)! Step 1 is showing up & step 2 is going for it. Gosh darn the 50/49 min range & gosh darn my age group. I was 2nd overall female & 2nd in my age group (40-49).🤣 Always great seeing my running friends Nabor Gomez, Viet Nguyen, Javier Delgado, Kimberly Govea, & Evan Hoover, who was supporting on the bike. I got a hard effort in & I gave it my all. Legs felt heavy, but I liked my new Alphaflys (this was their inaugural race) & the Maybelline lipstick stayed on.👍🏻💄 by @seeleftyrun

Fun weekend celebrating a passion for running with good friends at the Ventura Marathon (Southern California). Some ran the half🙋🏼‍♀️, while others ran the full. I will certainly make this localish race an annual tradition. The logistics were easy, it wasn’t crowded, & it was scenic. This is my perfect kind of race. by @seeleftyrun
