The Seenaryo team over the years!

Every two years we gather for a team retreat: travelling from our offices in #Lebanon, #Jordan and the #UK to spend a few days together reflecting, connecting and coming up with big ideas for the future.

Last week we met in Lebanon, where we welcomed new faces to the team, delved into our strategy and enjoyed a few games from the Seenaryo Playkit and our theatre cookbook.

As a team that spends a lot of time meeting online, it's invaluable to spend a few days altogether – reminding ourselves of our shared vision and why we love doing what we do.

كل عامين، نجتمع في لقاء للفريق، حيث نسافر من مكاتبنا في لبنان والأردن والمملكة المتحدة لنمضي بضعة أيام معًا، نتأمل خلالها في عملنا، ونعزّز روابطنا، ونطرح أفكارًا كبيرة للمستقبل.

في الأسبوع الماضي، اجتمعنا في لبنان، ورحّبنا بوجوه جديدة انضمّت إلى الفريق، وتعمّقنا في استراتيجيتنا، ولعبنا ألعابًا من حقيبة سيناريو للألعاب والمسرح، ومن كتاب وصفاتنا المسرحية.

وبما أنّنا نقضي الكثير من الوقت في الاجتماعات عبر الإنترنت، فإنّ قضاء بضعة أيام معًا وجهًا لوجه له قيمة كبيرة — فهو يذكّرنا برؤيتنا المشتركة، وبالأسباب التي تجعلنا نحبّ ما نقوم به. by @seenary0

This epic theatrical journey began at @shubbakfestival in London and has travelled to #Palestine, #Syria, #Egypt, #Jordan – and finally to #Lebanon where we brought the journey to a close in front of more than 400 people at @sioufigarden in Beirut.

In Lebanon, there were moments when it seemed the show might never happen. The performance was originally planned for spring, but rehearsals were brought to a halt by war. In August, we returned to the rehearsal room, but right up until the final rehearsal, we were constantly assessing the situation, asking whether it was safe enough to go ahead. Then, at the 11th hour, rain threatened to stop the show.

But the show went on! 136 performers lit up the stage and brought these urgent stories to life as the sun set over Beirut. They moved, sang and performed their original play, A Go Again. After everything it took to get there, these were two extraordinary nights – nights we will be carrying with us for a long time to come.

انطلقت هذه الرحلة المسرحية الملحمية من مهرجان شبّاك في لندن العام الماضي. ومنذ ذلك الحين، عبرت الحدود وجابت خمس دول: من بيت جالا في فلسطين، إلى دمشق في سوريا، والقاهرة في مصر، وعمّان في الأردن – وأخيرًا إلى بيروت، حيث اختتمنا الرحلة أمام أكثر من ٤٠٠ شخص في حديقة السيوفي.

في لبنان، كانت هناك لحظات بدا فيها أن العرض قد لا يرى النور أبدًا. كان من المقرر أصلًا تقديم العرض الأخير في الربيع، لكن الحرب أوقفت التدريبات. وفي آب، عدنا إلى غرفة التمارين، لكن حتى اللحظات الأخيرة، وقبل التدريب النهائي مباشرة، كنا نقيّم الوضع باستمرار ونتساءل إن كان من الآمن المضي قدمًا. ثم، في اللحظة الأخيرة، هدد المطر بإيقاف العرض.

لكن العرض استمر! أضاء ١٣٦ مؤديًا ومؤدية خشبة المسرح، وأحيوا هذه القصص الملحّة. ومع غروب الشمس فوق بيروت، تحركوا وغنّوا وأدّوا مسرحيتهم الأصلية، "حَـاـوَِّْل". وبعد كل ما تطلّبه الوصول إلى هذه اللحظة، كانت هاتان ليلتين استثنائيتين – ليلتين ستبقيان معنا طويلًا.

Introducing Founder Friday: a spotlight series featuring the visionaries, or as we call them, the Global Innovators, behind purpose-driven ventures supported by the Expo City Dubai Foundation (ECDF).

Seenaryo is an organisation based in Lebanon & Jordan that aims to make education consistent, fun and engaging for children in refugee contexts. Their bespoke training Playkit brings learning to life through play, art, song and more.

اجتمعو في مساحة تمرين واحدة، حيث عملوا على أدوارهم، واكتشفوا الروابط بينها، وبدأوا يرون كيف ستجتمع كل هذه الأجزاء على خشبة المسرح.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Bound by a desperate dream of leaving, each member of the ensemble carries their own reason to escape: war, racism, discrimination. When a visa appears, promising to take them anywhere in the world, hope collides with fear. What will it cost to leave?

Is it the exhausting, dehumanising process of proving you deserve to go? Or leaving loved ones behind and never looking back?

Drawing on the spirit of Ibn Battuta, the legendary 14th-century traveller who journeyed freely across continents, the play explores a world transformed since his era of borderless wandering. In an age of visas, borders and gatekeepers, movement has become something to be earned, proven, and often denied.

When the latest war on Lebanon began, an ensemble of women in the South had just started creating an original play with Seenaryo.

Rehearsals were cancelled, yet the women continued meeting online throughout the war.

Mariam shared this message about the online sessions.

عندما بدأت الحرب الأخيرة على لبنان، كانت مجموعة من النساء في الجنوب قد بدأت للتو العمل على إعداد مسرحية أصلية مع سيناريو.

أُلغيت التدريبات، لكن النساء واصلن اللقاء عبر الإنترنت طوال فترة الحرب.
