Two days ago, at a bookshop in town,
a dog in a tux and a cat in a gown
asked all the others to give them a chance,
to break down the walls, and join in the dance.

We twirled on our toes and we had a good chat,
and Rachel the Marvellous wore a top hat.
Thank you for coming, you fabulous crew –
This book was a dream....
.....and our dream has come true. 🎵❤️

Ahhhhh, what a spectacular party we had!

🥳 Elizabeth @elizabeth.stewart.illo & I launched Ginger & Fred on Saturday at the ever-magnificent @gleebooks_kids with the effervescent Rachel. To everyone who joined us, or sent love and wishes from afar, THANK YOU – there was so much love in the room and we could feel it in the air. 💞

💙 Elizabeth - it was an honour and joy to do this book and this launch with you. Thank you Maryann @maryannballantyne and Donna @donnabelindarawlinsfrench for your incredible support, and for bringing the pizzazz (and the feathers.) Huge thanks to my family, for encouraging me to chase bold dreams. 😘

🩷 And Rachel – for being the perfect host and such a champion of children’s authors and illustrators. We love you. 🩷

💃🏽I hope this trailblazing duo waltz their way into many hearts.🐾

[I'm a little late to the party. People are already on the dancefloor, but I take a deep breath and make my way into the crowd...]

It's been a while since I introduced myself, but @maryanastasiou_author set this #creatorchallenge2026 and I love what she does, so here I am!

💃🏽I'm Seetha, an author based in Sydney. I write picture books and junior fiction, and dabble in short stories and poetry.

My stories have a common thread - the need to belong and the importance of inclusivity. I want to weave that thread into stories children will love.

👯‍♂️[Ooh, the flash mob is about to begin. I may not know all the steps but I'm giving it a go. Thanks for having me, I'm so glad to be here.]

In the town of Furrington, dogs twirl with dogs, and cats whirl with cats. That’s the way it’s always been. In fact it’s the law. So what happens when dancefloor rebels Ginger the cat and Fred the Dalmatian turn up with a new style of dance?

It took a long time to figure out the dog and cat and cat characters for our book . Mastering different dog and cat breeds was the easy part. Making fashion choices was far more difficult. Would you choose Georgian formal attire (I was obviously watching too much Jane Austen at the time) or more modern ballroom fashion? Big eyes or little ones? You decide!

Thursday was an enchantingly spectacular day.
It was a day to celebrate the finest books in children's literature (swipe to see shortlist pic 10) and their extremely talented creators as part of the @qldliteraryawards
🥳
Shortlisted authors Seetha Dodd for her middle grade book 'Myra in the Middle' and Zeno Sworder for his picture book 'Once I was a Giant' were in town for the event!!
🏅
After a lovely meet & catch up lunch at a scenic spot by the river, organised by the effervescent @jess.galatola with @bethanyloveridgeauthor @lbe.hackney @hayleehackenbergauthor (thanks for organising - loved chatting!)
... it was then time to show off Brisbane's best bookshops on the west-north side➡️ @quickbrownfoxbookshop @brightandearlybooks
@wherethewildthingsare_bookshop
... where I got a signed copy of Seetha's new rhyming picture book 'Ginger & Fred.'
🐱
It is actually so lovely to drive around with fellow creatives and get to know each other a little more. Loved the time spent with Seetha and Zeno!!
🚙
The Queensland literary award ceremony at the Brisbane Powerhouse was a buzz of excitement, where years of hard work, doubt, inspiration, disbelief, determination and perseverance paid off, award winners delivering humorous, fiery and passionate speeches.
❤️
And, I was so thrilled to meet Leesa Allinson, author of shortlisted children's book 'One Koala One Hundred Trees.' (swipe to pic 12).
🏆
Special congratulations to our Charlotte Barkla on winning a Queensland Writers Fellowship. @charlottebarklabooks (pic 9)
And once again huge congratulations to Seetha for shortlisting and Zeno for winning! It is an honour to know you all. Xxx

@loveyourbookshopau day got spooky at @gleebooks_kids today for the launch of Howl-O-Ween. Such a clever concept with fabulous rhyme and gorgeous illustrations.

Loved hearing about Emma's idea seeds @emma.bowd.au and getting a peek at Lara's sketchbook @laraporter_illustration

This dynamic duo have created a picture book that is visually stunning, has lots of opportunities for learning and is so much fun as seen today with the kids in the audience totally engaged and excited. And the adults too, if the realistic howling was anything to go by. 🐶🎃👻

Great to catch up with kidlit friends as always, and it was a fantastic turn out! ❤️

30 hours in Brisbane. I travelled back in time and was enveloped into a cocoon of warmth by the wonderful Brisbane kidlit crew.
@jess.galatola @lbe.hackney @sandhya_librarybagbooks @bethanyloveridgeauthor @hayleehackenbergauthor @waniandwords - thank you for making this trip extra special. 🩷

Attending the @qldliteraryawards and being among authors whom I admire, whose books are on my shelf, and who speak with such profundity about books, ideas and the power of literature was just incredible. So many highlights, including meeting @petercarnavasauthor and listening to the best speech of the night @mama_sita_1981 💜

Thank you @vallance.cathy for a wonderful evening, thank you @jess.galatola and @lbe.hackney for sharing the evening with me, and congratulations to all the winners and shortlisters. Especially @zenosworder whose winning book 'Once I was a Giant' is spectacular and moving, and deserves every accolade. 💚

Very excited about the shiny, silver sticker that will go on the cover of Myra in the Middle! @petercheong_ @uqpbooks

Savouring September and lingering awhile.

Launching Ginger & Fred with @elizabeth.stewart.illo was feather boa fantastic and everyone who came or cheered us on from afar made it a day I'll never forget. 💃🏽

The day after the launch, Elizabeth & I visited some bookstores in Sydney, where we met lovely booksellers and signed copies - an extra special experience to do this together! Plus, stickers!! 📚

Attended two book launches for a fabulous picture book about accessibility by @jesshornauthor and @ramonaofjersey (Starfish Can't Ride Bikes) and an exquisite middle grade novel by @maryammasterauthor (My Tiny Universe). 🚲🧡

More special moments with the wonderful community brought together by @zannilouise at her retreat in the Blue Mountains, also loved being a part of Lunch with the Stars @cbcansw and presenting a Local Author Talk at Dee Why library. ⛰️🌟🗨

Keeping fingers crossed after entering the Pitch It competition and submitting some work to publishers. If you've entered or are sending your work into the world, my fingers are crossed for you too. 🍀🤞🏼

Can't linger too long as October is already racing ahead. Can I skip and savour at the same time?

Myra had only JUST got comfortable with her place as a middle child and a midfielder.

Then lo and behold... a new book baby came along. An adorable cat and dog who shimmied and strutted into the world.

But they are hard to resist. And Myra made room in her heart.

So, here they are together, at the wonderful Dee Why Library, sharing the spotlight for a Local Author Talk.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by, including lovely @laurensaunders_illustration

It was so much fun meeting keen readers and sharing my author journey & the process behind the books. Thank you Brigitte and Lita for organising this event!
