23 years ago this month I had a brain hemorrhage after having mini-strokes while dancing on stage as a str***er. (glory box was always in rotation, in my sets) I’d also have these transient ischemic attacks when people I loved were being sent to prison, when stress would get too high, when I ate spicy foods. One time in Việt Nam, my 5’0 mom picked me up off the ground because I had collapsed from too much ớt 🌶️in my food. My family still jokes about me eating peppers.

Since then - a dozen strokes + two cranial bypass surgeries later - much has happened. Sometimes, many times, I would forget how precious I was, how powerful, and how fortunate I am.

This week I was reminded of my mortality again. That I have a progressive, incurable brain disease. That I must take much better care of me. That while I have incredible people around me now, I allowed too many others to get away with harming me. That if one is not adding goodness to my life, they can easily be removed.

That I am, indeed, a survivor. With a track record of compassion, integrity, principle, ferociousness, care. Sometimes I forget. Because depression and anxiety - by way of patriarchy, abuse, racism, war - will do that to you.

Today, I am reminding me for me: thank you, Dr. Wun, for staying. And for loving others on my way. And for being very mindful with how you unleash your skills, rage and resources.

I told a dear person today that the older you get the more arrogant you become. These scars and lines are testimony. Decades later, every day, I will honor and celebrate me. Even and especially when it makes zero sense to others. Every day. I love me. Thank you to my teammates. by @seewun

So, “social justice/ethnic studies/abolitionist academics” - this icon of yours has admitted to all of the above and you’re still widely platforming him - am I understanding this correctly?

Let me grab some tea for a second while you explain yourselves to each other about the ways women are always disposable. Even and especially the most brilliant ones.

Good thing there’s another movement led by survivors and our co-conspirators.

Go ahead, explain yourselves.

(While you’re at it, be useful and remind him that I’m Vietnamese not Chinese. We are not all the same. Thanks). taken in Survivors by @seewun

🎬🎬🎬and just like that we closed out AAPI Women Lead’s @aapiwomenlead 8th and final ImReady conference!!! Theme: RELENTLESS.

We are an organization created by two Vietnamese survivor sisters. Relentlessness is in our blood.

Thank you to EVERY powerfully unapologetic speaker, wellness practitioner, vendor, volunteer, guest, consultant, board member, artist, donor, safety, funder and attendee who made this event possible. Thank you to our beloved MC @iamsongha for being the Queen of Ceremonies. There is no way we could have done this without you all.

To our survivor community, I love and appreciate you so deeply + fiercely. Thank you for being with us. We are beautiful forces. 💕

To the powerhouse at dynamic duo at @aapiwomenlead, Jenny and Vanessa, you carried the work of tens of humans. Thank you. Thank you to our comms staff for holding it down. We are a tiny tiny team making miracles happen.

People flew in from Hawai’i, Washington state, Portland, DC, Georgia, Florida and all across California to join us. THANK YOU for your brilliance, trust, love and care.

Our speakers were phenomenal. Our practitioners exceptional. Our attendees amazing. The vibe unparalleled. It’s what we all do together.

What started as a small org funded by Jenny’s credit card that has extended to reach millions across the globe: we are relentless, unstoppable, a force to be reckoned with. And I am forever proud of the global community we have built and will continue to grow. MORE TO COME.

We rest now. So that we can be MF RELENTLESS where we need to be.

WE DID IT!!!!! 💜 stay tuned for the magic that is to come. xo

Cornell 57.

And an entire globe - communities, families, friend groups, fraternities, group chats, wartime strategies, locker rooms full of silence. The violence is in the everydayness of it all. The excuses. The license. The audacity. The essays. The boys will be boys.

My heart hurts for us. And I am grateful that more of us are screaming at the top of our lungs that all of it has to end.

Support survivors. And stop harm doers, perpetrators. All of the time. by @seewun

Exhaustion is an understatement. I want so much better, different, more for us.

The violence is in the extreme and the everyday.

Today and all days, I am with all survivors, the young woman who is surviving Cornell, the young woman on United, the survivors across the globe during war + genocides, my dearest friends, my mama and me.

We deserve so much better. A new world. And it must be on its way.

We keep each other safe and alive. That, I have always known, is a beautiful and great responsibility. May we do the work to take care of ourselves and each other to keep all of us going.

Our love and solidarity is with Nolan Wells’ family and loved ones.

We continue to demand justice for Nolan. We continue to demand protection for Black communities. Nolan should still be here. He should still be with his family, his mother.

We must all demand and fight for a world where there is justice for Nolan. A world where Nolan is here.

We are with Christine Wonsley, his family and everyone who has been impacted by this his death and this devastating outcome. by @seewun

My sister, @jennywun —the co-founder + creative genius behind @aapiwomenlead —is 3 years cancer free!!!!

One year before she was diagnosed with skin cancer, she became our mom’s kidney donor - who had induced kidney failure because of the medical industry.

Through it all, she ran programs for our organization, is the brilliant mind behind our operations + social media work.

She is a survivor. Grew up on free lunch. Without our parents. And continues to serve our communities + loved ones.

We have served thousands of people because of my sister’s labor + love.

She has saved many lives, including my own. Decades ago, when I had my brain hemorrhage, she saved my life.

Today, she is working hard to find a kidney donor for our youngest cousin, Amanda @kidney4amanda, who has been on dialysis 3x a week. My sister and I would do it - but Jenny is down one kidney already (🥹🙏) and I don’t qualify with my health stuff (argh!)

When we say, we keep one another alive and safe, Jenny is the best example.

Please send your love to @jennywun for being one of the world’s most exceptional humans.

We are so lucky to have you.

***still looking for donors for @kidney4amanda 🙏🙏🙏 - women in my household are living data about health disparities + Southeast Asian women, fyi
