Dad, I hope you loved your homegoing celebration the way I think you would. It was larger than life, it was loud, it was unforgettable, and it was full of love, just like you.

I’m still having trouble coming to terms with the fact that you’re no longer here in the flesh. So much of me stems from you, everything I do reminds me of you. From the music I listen to, to the food that I love, the way that I talk and think, my favorite football team, even down to my daily routines.

I’m so glad I started our nightly talks after work. Every night at 8:30 when I got off you were the first person I’d call. I’ll miss our talks. I’ll miss your calls. I’ll miss your voice, your jokes, your laughter. I’m going to miss it all so so much, dad.

I’m going to continue being a good person, because you taught me that. I’m going to continue to take care of the family, especially mom and Meyah. And I’m going to continue to be someone I know you’d be proud of. I owe it to you to make the most out of this life because you did everything you could to give me the best opportunities.

I love you more than I ever got to tell you, but I’m glad I never left you or got off the phone without letting you know I love you. Because I do. Forever pops.

Get your rest and I’ll see you when I see you, dad. 💙

As a kid I grew up idolizing my pops. He was my Superman. He could do no wrong in my eyes and I always took his side. I know mom hated that lol.

He taught me so many things. How to stand up for what you believe in, even if it’s just you. He taught me it ain’t what you know it’s who you know, and it ain’t what you say it’s how you say it. He taught me how to lead the family, how important it is to be present and show face. He showed me the importance of staying connected to your loved ones, and to always pray.

He was the funniest person I ever met. Even when he was sick and could barely walk at home, if we pulled up to a function or gathering, he was in the middle of the crowd makin everybody laugh. He was such a light in my life as well as many others. He lived every day to the fullest, and left no stone unturned in this life.

I just want to thank everybody who ever picked up a call or sent a text, as he got older, those calls and texts were his only way to connect, and he loved every minute of it. Thank y’all for watchin out for my pops, I can’t pay yall back for that.

Grandma, I still cant believe this is real. I never thought in a million years that you would ever leave us. You were always so strong, always so full of love and life, always smiling. I’m going to miss your laugh so much. Accepting this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life.

To anyone who knew my grandma, you knew the only thing she loved more than her family was God. I remember the early mornings I’d randomly wake up as a kid, I always knew where I’d find you: sitting up on your bed, eyes closed, legs hanging off the side of the bed with a pillow over your lap as you sang and thanked God for waking you up.

You were such a light in my life. Aunty June said it best. “I am who I am today because of you”. Thank you for your prayers, and for showing me how to love unconditionally.

Please be with us during this time leading up to your special day. The family is hurting but we’re tryna push through. Please pray for comfort and peace of mind over us. We miss you down here.

When we laid my uncle Chuck to rest, I felt it was necessary to share this message with not only my little cuzzins, but everybody in that church.

Back in 08 when my uncle Chico got locked up for life, I spent a good portion of my life in constant sadness. 11th & 12th grade, I used to get my lunch, break into the weight room (everybody at Grant knew how to break in lol) and listen to music alone and just cry between classes. I went from a 3.8 gpa student to barely a 2.5. I stopped everything cuz I couldn’t get over the loss of my uncle who was like a second father.

Now, being older and havin some years under my belt, I see my lil cuzzins goin thru their own trials and tribulations, dealing with their own immeasurable losses. There are no words to stop the pain, confusion and tears that lie ahead, but if y’all can learn anything from me, please don’t waste time on regret.

I promise yall, no amount of guilt trippin is gonna change a thing. Instead, sit in yall feelings, embrace the good times when they come, and honor your loved ones by livin yo life and winnin. Cuz at the end of the day that’s all they wanted for yall.

And this isn’t just for my lil cuzzins, or for my younger self. I hope whoever needs to hear this message finds it. Keep goin 🤞🏾 Rest in Peace Chuck 💙 by @sefam
