Making this bone broth,
I had a glimpse of how similar it is to life.

You can’t rush it.

It needs time, patience,
and trust in the slow unfolding.

Left alone to simmer,
something deep slowly emerges.
Something that was always there.

And sometimes, I think childhood is much the same.

Less shaping.
More allowing.

Space, time, trust…
and letting the child slowly become
who they have always been.

Because learning often doesn’t look like learning.🦋

Sometimes it looks like sliding across the floor
with a water balloon.🎈

And sometimes it looks like absolutely nothing more
than a child having a really good time.💫

Play is learning.
Living life is learning.

✨Maybe we just need to get better at seeing
that learning isn’t separate from life. It is life.✨

I have never regretted taking him outside.🌲
Not once.

No matter what kind of day we were having,
we always seemed to come back happier.😍

More joyful.😊
More connected.🤲
More at peace.✌️

So time in nature has always been something
I fiercely protect for him.🦋

It’s where he remembers who he is.

✨It’s where he remembers that he is a part of the whole.✨

And so do I.💫

He built his first ceramic F1 car, but it was tiny.🏎️

We all hoped it would work, but several of the wheels
fell off in the kiln.🛞😔

I wasn’t quite sure how Oliver would take it.
I was actually a little hesitant to tell him.

But when I did, he simply said, “Oh, okay.”

And then he asked if we could go back to ceramics.🤩

So we went back. 💫

He talked through the options with our ceramist @jardindevidacr, decided to glue the wheels
back on and paint the car with acrylics.🎨

And then he was ready to make another race car.🏎️💨

A bigger one.

And that’s what he did.

I had the pleasure of watching him become completely immersed in this next version of his idea.💡
He took what he’d learned from the first attempt
and applied it to the next.

I love that he had the time to stay with it.
That he could decide what to do next.
That one attempt didn’t have to be the end of the story.🌈

✨That he had the freedom to follow an idea
wherever it led.✨

Oliver had always known that scuba diving
was something Dad did.🤿

He was fascinated by it, but we waited until
he was curious enough to ask to try.🪸

Dad already knew how,
so we started slowly and safely in the pool.

And I still remember watching him breathe
underwater for the first time.🐠

Watching him trust himself in a completely different element.

Watching the two of them together.🤲

Oliver experiencing a new world,
and Dad sharing something he loves with him.❤️

✨When you’re interested and have someone beside you
to guide and support you, learning is what naturally emerges.✨

A world so different from our own,
and yet so much of it feels familiar.✨

In the San Blas Islands, we spent the day
surrounded by local families and children.🏝️

We were welcomed into their homes,
their games,
their ways of being.🦋

A game with a piece of string.
Walking the streets together.
Sharing little pieces of a life so different from our own.

Nothing planned.📆
Nothing taught.

Just humans connecting across cultures,
inviting each other into their worlds.💫

Every year, I tell myself we should just buy the damn costume.👻

And every year, we don’t.🤩

Because in our house, we build them.🛠️

It starts with an idea.
And yes, it has to be Star Wars themed.😂

Then the sketches.
The discussions about how to make it.
Finding the materials.
Running into things that don’t work.
The moments when we almost give up.
And the moments when we figure out another way,
try again, and somehow make it work.💫

This year, it’s C-3PO.

This is just the making of the mask.👺

There’s still so much more to do.

And yes, sometimes I really do wish we could
just walk into a store and buy a costume.💰

But then I watch him come up with ideas,💡
solve problems,
get excited when something finally works…

And I remember why we do this.

The costume is fun.

✨But making it together is the part we’ll remember.✨

The highlight of his day was this bird.🦜

This birdie hit our window.😢
Luckily, we found him still alive.❤️

Oliver held him, pet him, and slowly
the bird got back to himself.💫

We thought he would fly away, but he didn’t.

He just stayed.
Sitting quietly on Oliver’s arm.

Oliver was so gentle with him.
So completely in the moment.
So amazed by this sweet encounter.✨

And when he reflected on his day before going to bed,
he said, “this little bird was the highlight of my entire day”🤩
