The Emmy winners in our hearts <33

Congratulations Sarah Pidgeon, Paul Anthony Kelly, and the entire “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” team on a fantastic Emmy season.

It was so fun working together on this, not just making sure that Sarah (aka CBK) had the perfect pair of Carolyn’s, but also helping curate a true representation of America and New York’s fashion at the time with a selection of our original Selima’s and pieces from our vintage archives — as worn by Paul (aka JFK Jr.) and various members of the cast. The show ended up being absolutely stunning and making us completely nostalgic for ‘90s New York so, once again, bravo.

Twenty-five years ago, we made a pledge to stay in New York City because we loved New York City. And now, 25 years later, we’re still here, we’re still honoring that pledge, and somehow, some way, we love New York more than ever.

It is not easy to talk about. It may never be easy to talk about. But, looking back, seeing Selima in this “I <3 NY” ad from November 2001, and hearing that pledge again, we want to share a piece of what we remember.

Down the street from our first store (59 Wooster, the boutique that has turned into our forever flagship), we will never, ever forget September 11th, 2001.

But, more importantly, we will never forget September 12th and September 13th and 14th and 15th and every single day and week and month onwards when this city built itself back up piece by piece and hand in hand.

We will never forget how quickly the restaurants opened back up or how quickly everyone returned to them, wanting to make sure waiters could get their tips, wanting life to feel a little normal again.

We will never forget how safe the city was, or how safe it felt to us, seeing open arms through blurry eyes. Maybe it was imagined, some hazy recollection, but we’ll never forget that feeling of oneness, of a peace and security in togetherness.

And, as we, ourselves, tried to get back to normal and we tried to find the lines between the personal and the professional (which, as many of you know, is an ongoing struggle at the Optique), we’ll never forget everyone who was there for us as a business. We made a pledge that we would stay in New York, but we would never have been able to fulfill that pledge if it wasn’t for every single person who made their way back downtown and supported us. Words will never be able to describe how grateful we were for you then, nor how indebted we remain to you now.

The Virgo in “Pea Green” (P95).

A really unique color and a classic at Selima Optique, P95 (aka “Pea Green”) is a crystal green acetate, which leans lighter or darker depending on lighting (and lens color).

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, we’ve fit our last remaining, original pairs of the Virgo in P95 with new sunglass and clear lenses. Handmade in France in the early 2000s, these frames are now available online and in-store.

(While the Virgo is originally offered as UV400-protective sunglasses and with clear lenses, prescription lenses, alternative lens colors — like these pink ones, and blue light lenses are available by request.)

A soirée with Selimas at Sorbara’s <3

So fun opening up our archives, talking eyewear, and trying frames on… even if it feels absolutely crazy that some of our styles (like those iridescent Harleys and Yokos) are technically “vintage” now, since it’s been over 20 years since they were produced in the late 90s & early 2000s 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Thank you everyone for chatting, modeling, and sipping with us, and thank you Sorbara’s for hosting and helping produce the limited-edition t-shirt celebrating the 25th anniversary of our 2001 catalog, “Women on the Verge.”
