Here it is - all my favourite places to go in Cardiff. It’s something I’ve wanted to get together for months, so the #indiecardifftakeover was the perfect excuse to get it done! Thanks @bites_withbeth and @eleats.wales for the tags 🫶🏻

I thoroughly suggest you save this one for the next time you’re looking for somewhere to go, Cardiff is filled with fantastic options for every occasion and sometimes it can feel overwhelming! Each one of these places has made the list because I have genuinely loved my time there - fantastic food and drinks, wonderful hospitality and you leave with that warm feeling that your money has gone to support somewhere special. No chains, supporting local people making their mark on our lovely city.

ad 🧋 IRN-BRU bubble tea has landed at @cupp.uk! There’s three different flavours to choose from - I went with the fruity one with strawberry popping bubbles 🍓

Choose from:
🥭 Mango Bru: Mango, green tea + IRN BRU
🍋 Citrus Bru: Fresh lemon, green tea + IRN BRU
🍓 Fruity Bru: Strawberry, green tea + IRN BRU

Was super refreshing, I always go for the fruit-based drinks so this was a bit of me - loved the fizz! I hadn’t had an IRN BRU in forever so it was a hit of nostalgia, would definitely order again!

Had a lovely autumnal afternoon tea at @hensolcastle today, treating J’s nan for her birthday! She used to work at Hensol when it was a hospital, so it was lush to stroll down memory lane with her. Safe to say there wasn’t a scone in sight back then 😅

This is a new menu, it apparently changes about twice a year and this got us in the mood for autumn 🍁🍂 it was all lovely, thoroughly recommend as a treat. It’s £32pp, and with that there’s a whole box of teas to choose from or coffees… or you can upgrade to prosecco, gin or champagne options - the gin one is a bit of me 🥂🍹 the gin tour, tasting and making experiences at @hensolcastledistillery are fabulous too, still dead proud of my gin!

Take a walk down to the lake if you go, it’s beautiful! It’s going to be even more pretty in a few weeks as the leaves turn 😍

ad 🎃 @clearwellfarm’s pumpkin patch and village are now open! We had a lovely evening wandering the field, picking our pumpkins and exploring the pumpkin village. The kids were LOVING it, so sweet to watch!

There’s also food and drink options (shout out @lillies_coffee for a lovely flat white and hot chocolate) a rodeo pumpkin, live music, UV face painting, axe throwing… all sorts! We went on a Dolly tribute/line dancing night which was cute - check out their Instagram for what’s on.

ad 💙 @solinapasta opens tomorrow - great choice of name, great choice of food 🍝

We were invited down to their preview night, and I can safely say I’m gonna be a regular here. Some of the best arancini I’ve had, lovely pasta and a super creamy tiramisu! Would like a tad more coffee in it, but I do like it strong… the tiramisu espresso martinis soon solved that ☕️ that’s the only note I have, top notch meal.

We ordered:
❋ Wild mushroom arancini with pistachio pesto mayonnaise - £3 each
❋ Lasagne fritte, bechamel, roast tomato sauce and parmesan - £7
❋ Sedanini wild venison ragu - £14
❋ Radiatori sausage and pancetti ragu with nduja - £15
❋ Tiramisu - £9
❋ Orange and almond polenta cake - £9

If you’re in Cardiff tomorrow head down to snag one of 3,000 free pastas - and even if you’re not, get there soon to try it out! It’s well worth a visit. Walk-ins only, so handy for popping in after work or shopping.

Cracking night at @boombattlebar Cardiff this week for their cocktail masterclass, celebrating all things @patron! A margarita is forever a fave of mine, I wouldn’t like to say how many we had 😂😇

It’s safe to say you’ll never be dry during this, and will never stop laughing either! The staff were a great laugh and knew their stuff too. Food was good, especially the chicken tenders and carbonara bites. After the masterclass we hit the karaoke booths, thank goodness for soundproofing…

ad 🪩 Goodbye Par 59, helloooo @lane7_! What a transformation, loads more to do - can see this being a popular venue for Christmas parties this year 👀 sound like it’s gonna be a great spot for watching sport too, there are screens everywhere!

ad 🏟️ @riverside__social is now open! Offering coffees and brunch by day and drinks into the night, the new bar and café in @principalitysta is a great riverside spot to watch some sport or meet up after a day of shopping 🛍️

We had a great night trying the lovely new focaccia and cake options, and although I’d give the tipsy matcha cocktail a miss next time (not an aniseed girlie) the espresso martini is a bit more me 😂☕️ and that carrot cake… yum!

ad 🍹 Beija Flor has a new menu, and you need to get down to Dinas Powys and check it out 🙂‍↕️

They’ve got a new chef at the helm - Damian Jones, previous head chef at The Custom House and Bar 44 to name a few. The main and special menus are filled with new meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, and we got to try a few last night!

We had:
❋ Garlic king prawns in a lemon butter sauce - £9.95
❋ Thai fishcakes with a vodka and lime mayonnaise - £9.95
❋ 8oz ribeye steak with chips, mushroom and watercress- £32.95
❋ Rioja and bone marrow steak sauce - £3.00
❋ Fresh haddock with a creamy curry sauce, cheese arancini and mussels - £29.50
❋ Butternut squash, cauliflower and red pepper in a coconut creamy curry sauce with basmati rice - £17.95
❋ Beef dripping skin-on chips - £5.95
❋ Solar Flare cocktail (like a mango spicy marg) and a pint of Madri

I feel like I sound like a broken record when I say it was all lovely, but it’s true - the prawns were *huge* and definitely a highlight. The haddock was perfectly cooked, and I enjoyed the curried mussel sauce it came with - never would think to pair it with an arancini but it worked great!

The veg curry was so light, and a toally different flavour to the haddock dish, much more fragrant and Thai-inspired. The steak was a winner too, it was very difficult not to drown it in the rioja and bone marrow sauce - one of the best steak sauces I’ve had. Yes, it’s £32.95 for this dish + £3 for the sauce but I would pay that happily for the quality of cooking on show.

Desserts? No chance, 2 starters and 3 mains and we were done for 😅 perhaps next time! This is a favourite place of mine for good reason, we love it here - the staff are lovely and the upstairs restaurant is beautiful - full of plants and the perfect place to enjoy a meal.

Plus, this bank hol it’s 2 for £14 on cocktails all weekend! Say lessss 🍸 have a Solar Flare (or 2) for me! Get booked in 🫶✨
