It was a beautiful day in Solana Beach standing alongside our local elected leaders, united in the effort to prevent new leases for offshore drilling. As Chair of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee, I know how vital it is that we do everything in our power to safeguard our ocean and the coastal resources that define and sustain our communities.

I’m proud to support Rep. Mike Levin’s Southern California Coast and Ocean Protection Act, which takes an important step by prohibiting new drilling in federal waters off our shoreline. I’m grateful for his partnership and his commitment to protecting our environment at the national level. Together, we’re pushing for the long-term, common sense solutions Californians deserve. #banoffshoredrilling #coastalprotection #saveourocean taken in Solana Beach by @senatorblakespear

I was proud to present the City of Mission Viejo with a symbolic check for $850,000 that I helped secure from the state budget to support their hazardous fuels reduction initiative.

This funding will help the city remove dead or dying trees, unwanted palm trees and non-native vegetation from approximately 72 acres of natural habitat that is adjacent to residential and commercial areas.

This initiative will improve defensible space, reduce wildfire vulnerability and enhance evacuation routes and first responder access while protecting environmentally sensitive open spaces.

As the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires demonstrated in January 2025, there is no longer a traditional fire season in California – wildfires can break out at any time.

Communities must continually work to eliminate potential fuel for fire and be prepared year-round. taken in Mission Viejo, California by @senatorblakespear

I’m proud to announce that I secured $1 million in state funding for the @nclgbtqresourcecenter.

This is an investment in the health, safety, and dignity of LGBTQ+ residents and their families across North San Diego County.

The Resource Center provides services that many in our community rely on, including mental health and family counseling, substance use support, peer support groups, meals, legal assistance, and help securing transitional and permanent housing. These services help people find stability, belonging, and hope.

Every community deserves safe, welcoming spaces where people can access support and live authentically.

I am proud to have advocated for this funding and grateful to the North County LGBTQ Resource Center for its unwavering commitment to our neighbors. taken in Oceanside, California by @senatorblakespear

The Buena Creek Navigation Center provides temporary housing and support services for people experiencing homelessness in Vista.

State Senator Catherine Blakespear joined the City of Vista to announce an additional $2 million in state funding to support operations at the center. The new funding builds on the $5 million in state support she previously helped secure to open the center and fund its operations.

Since opening in March 2024, the Buena Creek Navigation Center has:
• Served 644 people
• Helped 225 people find permanent housing
• Helped 118 people find temporary housing
• Seen 58% of program exits lead to positive destinations

And among participants who moved into permanent housing and were reached one year later, 79% remained permanently housed.
Operated by Retread Housing Services, the center provides intensive case management and connections to permanent housing, behavioral health care, substance use treatment, employment, benefits, transportation and other services.

The work is also earning national recognition. Later this month, the International City/County Management Association will honor Vista with its 2026 Partnership Award for the Buena Creek Navigation Center.

Thank you to Senator Blakespear, Retread Housing Services, the Vista City Council and the City’s Housing & Homeless Services team for continuing to invest in pathways toward a lasting home. by @senatorblakespear

Thank you to the speakers who joined my Ending Homelessness Summit this week and shared their expertise, experience and ideas for creating lasting solutions.

Ending homelessness requires collaboration.

No single agency, organization or level of government can do this alone.

We need partners in behavioral health, public safety, local government, health care and social services working together to improve the system - including expanding housing options, such as interim housing, to get people inside as quickly as possible and connect them with the support they need to exit homelessness.

I’m grateful to everyone who attended and took the time to engage with this complex and urgent issue. Your commitment to understanding the challenges and finding solutions is essential to making progress.

As we continue this work, I encourage you to share your ideas with my office. Together, we can turn those ideas into meaningful action to help our unhoused neighbors find housing and lasting stability. by @senatorblakespear

Big cities can’t work in silos and we can’t end unsheltered homelessness unless every level of government leans in.

I’ve learned a lot from @mayortoddgloria and @senatorblakespear — and this week I had the opportunity to share with them how we reduced homelessness by over 1/3rd in just 18 months. I look forward to continuing working with folks across the state who know we need to be data-driven and we need to tackle the crisis of untreated mental illness and addiction on our streets. More to come!

Local leadership is essential to ending homelessness in communities across California.

I was grateful to welcome San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan to my annual Ending Homelessness Summit today to share how his city has reduced unsheltered homelessness and what other communities can learn from that work.

Mental illness and addiction can make it difficult for people to recognize that they need help or to seek treatment. Leaving people to deteriorate on our streets is not compassion. We must work together to build a system that connects people with housing, care and the treatment they need.

I remain committed to this work and to bringing local leaders, service providers and people with lived experience together. These forums give people a voice, help us identify solutions and strengthen our shared commitment to ending homelessness. by @senatorblakespear

I was pleased to attend the 4th Annual Ending Homelessness Summit hosted by Senator Catherine Blakespear to discuss how we can continue working together to address our region’s homelessness crisis.

These conversations, with leaders including Mayor Matt Mahan, help us share what’s working and find solutions we can put into practice together.

Thank you, Senator Blakespear, for bringing us together and for your continued commitment to helping people move off the streets and into housing. by @senatorblakespear

Thank you to Senator Catherine Blakespear, our Deputy Mayor, and City Staff for working together to secure a $3 million award from the State of California to develop interim housing adjacent to the Oceanside Navigation Center, where the City operates our 75 bed shelter. All located in District 3.

Thank you, Senator Blakespear, for championing this innovative project for the City of Oceanside and helping our community address homelessness and provide housing for our most vulnerable neighbors.

We took another BIG step in ending street homelessness today!

Senator Catherine Blakespear presented our city with a $3 Million investment into cabin or tiny-home styled interim housing right here in Oceanside! The homes will be a middle space for folks who are off the street and stabilized, but don’t yet have a more permanent home to land in yet. It fills a deep crack in our current housing system and we couldn’t be more proud to step forward along side the Senator.

This collaboration with Dignity Moves and Interfaith Community Services will save lives. What an exciting day for our city and our broader community. We look forward to showing everyone the progress as this vision is brought to life. taken in Oceanside, California by @senatorblakespear
