Maison Saint-Jean is a quiet transformation of a modest 30 m² workers’ cottage in the heart of Bordeaux. Instead of knocking it down, the project carefully revealed its potential by adding a subtle upper floor, maximising natural light through a glazed north-facing extension, and preserving the peaceful character of the dense urban block.

Reused materials, bio-based insulation and a respectful approach to the historic terrace make this a thoughtful piece of contemporary architecture that feels both intimate and intelligent. This is where you come to truly live in the light.

By working with the existing structure instead of replacing it entirely, the project reduced construction waste, shortened certain phases of the building process and retained valuable embodied energy already invested in the original building.

La nouvelle construction s’articule de manière libre dans une zone restreinte par un terrain à la forme découpée.
Sous les pins, les façades se déplient en fonction de la lumières du soleil. Tantôt les pergolas créent de l’ombre sur les percements, tantôt les angles bardés de bois fabriquent des pare-vents pour les trois terrasses en caillebotis.
À l’intérieur, les matériaux bruts sont mis à l’honneur comme le plafond sans revêtement de finition.
En contraste, un sol liège apporte de la douceur, du confort et une couleur chaleureuse.
Une des deux chambres peut s’ouvrir totalement de sorte à créer un bel espace de vie tout vitré.

Les façades d’acier blanc viennent en contraste avec les menuiseries bois. À l’intérieur le bois permet de dissimuler le bureau des signatures qui se doit d’être une salle intime où les secrets doivent être gardés.

Une attention particulière a été portée sur le système des persiennes qui se dissimulent elles aussi derrière le bardage acier blanc.
