5️⃣ Five core social and emotional competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making (CASEL, 2020)
💝 Without saying “SEL,” Mister Rogers taught a lot about social-emotional skills on and off the screen. I tried to match some of Mister Rogers’ quotes to the five SEL competencies here.
🌍👬👭👫 SEL is developed through relationships and interactions in everyday settings. That’s why it is important to develop supportive learning environments and coordinate practices across schools, households, and communities!

🤹‍♀️ Play it Forward Conference! 👶

As y'all might know, Kathy and Roberta are the ones who really brought play into the realm of education research and policy two decades ago 👯‍♀️
I had so much fun building relationships and communicating play ideas with folks from everywhere!
Also, it's always nice to see collaborators out of the zoom box 😁

This is our house staple to feed our whole family some protein!!
Our child LOVES eating this with rice 🥰

Korean style hard-boiled eggs
1. Boil eggs - 7 min
2. Prepare the marinade
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
2tbsp of sugar (optional)
2tbsp of sesame oil
1 tbsp of minced garlic (adjust to your taste)
1 tbsp of chopped green onions or chives (adjust to your taste)
Sesame seeds
(Optional) Add chopped onions and chopped carrots
3. Pour the marinade on the eggs.
4. Wait for 12 hours.
5. Eat them as is or with rice!

Their live was sooooooooo good! It's always amazing to see the band whose music you listen to almost every day 🥹

Thanks to Aging In America News (@swartzmark1 ), I got to share my early learning experiences living with 6 adults at home.
Not every moment was "educational." Then again, what is "educational?" Stuff that includes ABCs and numbers, advanced knowledge, at everything PG level? These are important, but also, I believe learning how to live together with diverse people cannot be ignored in children's learning experiences (Think about Lady Elaine in Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. He intentionally included that character!). Children are human beings, and raising human beings cannot be scripted. I also think that humanity, empathy, and compassion need to be discussed more in the Education field (it's growing, though!)

Our first insect preservation project!

I've always wanted to do this since I was little, so maybe I was a little bit more excited 😂 We both learned a lot and had a lot of fun! Taking out the pins were the hardest part -- left the butterfly a bit crooked in the end 🥲

Such a beautiful, beautiful creature 🦋🌈✨️ The iridescent colors leave you at awe!
I think our pollinator garden (wildflowers mostly lol) has been really attracting a lot of butterflies and bees 🥹 I've seen Monarchs, Swallotails, and my favorite White Cabbages around our house!

Since our child went to a child care center at the age of 1 until last week, for 7 years, I packed lunchboxes every school day.

I intentionally packed a lot of Korean food (from Samgyetang to Jjigaes) as an effort to help my child remember who she is. And her teachers would tell me that she always proudly explained each dish.
Packing lunchboxes was sometimes extra hard and grueling, sometimes fulfilling and joyful, sometimes habitual (I'd accidentally pack lunches when the school was closed!).
Sometimes it was a combination of leftovers, sometimes it was a result from hours of cooking, sometimes it was of her choice.

But always, always, always, with utmost love. Because food is love in whatever form 💛 by @seoyeon.play

I love love love NRCEC!
I started ECE research from Harris School fo Public Policy, so systems thinking is always at heart 💞
It was also a pretty small conference (compared to APA or AERA), so there were a lot of active interactions ✨️
PhD journey always feels like doubting myself while persuading others 😂
