"I think Dan sometimes gets forgotten. Whether it was random, whether it was intentional, he went out in that desert with Spit, and they died together, and they died for the thing that brought them together."

In this exclusive clip from Pj Perez's in-progress documentary MURDERED ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, a spotlight is shone on Daniel Shersty, who was killed with his friend Lin "Spit" Newborn by racist skinheads 28 years ago this weekend.

I heard today's #nationalpetday . But come on, around here — especially according to Charlie — every day is National Pet Day. by @sequentialmadness

Wrote and shot this silly commercial #parody almost four years ago for my underutilized YouTube channel and, sadly, it's still more relevant than ever.

Somebody chased a bird right into the water at the beach today. And that's how we learned whether Charlie knew how to swim. (Well, we now know he can at least dog-paddle in chest-deep water. 😅)

Meet Charlie. He's an 11-month-old poodle mix* we recently adopted from @girlsofdogrescue and it took very little time for him to assert himself as the center of attention around here.

Although he's only about 30 lbs, Charlie has Big Puppy energy. He loves to run, jump, show off his paws, birdwatch, inspect vehicles, play with other dogs, throw paws, nibble on human ears and toes, pull out all his toys every day, hide under beds and clothes, and ALWAYS BE BY YOUR SIDE. 🐶

He also quite enjoys destroying any and every kind of cardboard packaging he can get his big teeth into. And plants. And pens. And human hands and arms sometimes. Thankfully, not furniture or clothing so far. 😅

You'll probably be seeing a lot of Charlie in my Stories going forward, at least until I finally stop feeding the Meta AI Data Collection Beast. You're welcome and sorry in advance.

*We think he's a schnoodle but still have to do a DNA test.

2025 was, I suppose, a year of change and progress, bad and good. Said goodbye forever to both furry and human friends. Made an unexpected career pivot that left behind people and a place that had become a second home. Got a long-gestating film project into production. Put another one back on track. Made new connections and refreshed old ones along the way. It felt like an overwhelming year, and my life at the beginning feels very different than my life now moving into 2026. And yet, somehow, not much different at all. I guess that's just how life works, huh?

In 2025, production resumed on "Murdered on the Fourth of July," and in October, the filmmakers were able to sit down (finally) with former Clark County Assistant District Attorney Robert Daskas, one of the prosecutors in the John Butler murder trial.

In this web-exclusive clip, Daskas explains why Butler was the only person initially charged with the murders of Lin "Spit" Newborn and Daniel Shersty, and why—despite knowing Butler did not act alone—he was the only one of the conspirators to be convicted of the crime.

Now in post-production, "Murdered on the Fourth of July" is a documentary that explores the circumstances surrounding the ambush-style murders of Newborn and Shersty, two young anti-racist activists, by neo-Nazi skinheads in the desert outside Las Vegas on July 4, 1998.
