A kaleidoscope of palette scallops 🌈

More about these little paintings below 👇

My little ‘Palette Cleansers’ (or ‘a Palette Scallop’ as I also like to call them 😂) - are both an experiment in colour and how different colours interact with each other independently, and also a way to use up my leftover paint from my palette. No influence, no colour coordinating, just put down the leftover paint and see what happens.

I love the way this ‘tapestry’ weaves together colours from various paintings (you’ll spot the cherry blossom colours, the hibiscus, the bougainvillea etc) but it also references the failures, the colours that were time consumingly mixed with love and then just discarded, or left out overnight because there wasn’t enough of it to save. It also reminds me of worn-out knitted jersey’s from the 80’s/90’s that your granny used to make from leftover wool ; )

The collection has since grown to include both larger paintings and paintings which are more considered and/or representational.

To see the full range online, click on the link in my bio, and go to work / painting / palette scallops

We invite you to discover more of Sera Hollands' distinctive work - @seraholland

At its core, Sera’s practice examines how order and chaos can coexist within a single surface and what might emerge when emotion, instinct, and material curiosity take the lead.

Her paintings develop slowly layer by layer, as she tests the limits of paint as both a physical substance and a visual language.

Showing until 25 October @studio50_gallery
