POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last December, I put together this cabaret with the help of Andrew Gerle, naming it after my grandma, Shu Hua—where Shu stands for elegance and Hua means glamour.
Yesterday would have been her 78th birthday if she were still with us. Happy birthday to the most loving person I have ever known.
And here is her story... by @serenazhang_x

Hey Guys!
If you’re wondering what to do on Friday night, December 5th — I’ve got you! I’m announcing my solo cabaret at the lovely @reverieroomnyc . It’s my Senior Year and this is finally happening!
When I had to choose a theme the only thing that truly felt meaningful was to make it about my grandma — the most inspiring and uplifting person I’ve ever met.
I’m so grateful for my incredible instructor Andrew Gerle for making this possible. With THE ANDREW GERLE on the keys and @ferjoseflores might sing a note or two.

About The Show:
Shu Hua was my grandmother’s name. In Mandarin, Shu (淑) means gentle, and Hua (华) means splendid.
The show weaves American musical theatre songs with glimpses into her life as a Chinese woman born in the 1940s. Through music and storytelling, I explore memory, love, and the strength she passed on.
For Shu Hua.
For anyone you’ve ever missed.
