What began as a European status symbol wide, hand trimmed manicured greens that required land, labor, and water became the default in the U.S. over time. But today, many are rethinking what that space could be.

Replacing traditional grass lawns with native plants supports biodiversity, requires less water, and creates a more natural rhythm with the land. Pollinators return. Maintenance lessens. The landscape begins to give back. It doesn’t have to be an expensive change, in fact it can save money, resources, and your time. It can begin simply with native plant propagations.

At Serenbe, the absence of front lawns is intentional. Homes are designed to meet the street with porches, paths, and people, not stretches of grass. It’s a small shift that makes walkability feel natural, encourages connection, and brings daily life a little closer to the outdoors.

A different kind of landscape. One that works with nature, not against it. 🌿 Read more on our blog at the link in our bio. taken in Serenbe by @serenbe

What if we reimagined the pharmacy? About time, right?! Allow me to introduce @weareallchemy at @serenbe

17 years of experience went into this little shop - part pharmacy, part apothecary, part conversation about how to live well.

Rather than simply asking “what can we give you for this symptom?” they start further upstream: What might be out of balance? What habits, rhythms, foods, movement, rest, or natural remedies might help?

One of the most thoughtful & unique little business concepts I’ve come across in a long time. And though it would be hard to do right, there is massive potential to scale this…

Before it was the Inn at Serenbe, it was home to the Nygren family, where Kara grew up with a garden in her backyard🫜

As one of Serenbe’s original residents, Kara remembers growing up connected to the land and knowing where her food came from. It was an experience the Nygrens wanted other families to share, too, and a big part of the vision behind Serenbe Farms.

Hear Kara share a little of that story and get a glimpse of life at the farm. Watch the full video at the link in bio! 🌱 taken in Serenbe Farms by @serenbe

More than 150 blue birds are tucked into the trees at Deer Hollow Art Park in Serenbe!

Flock of Birds by artist Dorothy O’Connor was inspired by the movement of bird murmurations, with each bird handmade from Nepalese Lokta paper. Presented in partnership/collaboration with @fluxprojects

The art becomes part of the landscape, waiting to be discovered along the trails. It’s free and open to everyone, with an upcoming free artist talk offering a chance to hear more about the flock and the artist behind it.

Okay, quick correction: 40K+ new followers and counting! 😳

To all of you who are new around here, thank you and welcome! 👋💚

It’s pretty incredible to watch so many people find their way here in such a short amount of time. More than anything, it’s encouraging. Because we know this growth isn’t just about Serenbe. It’s about how many people are ready for a different approach to the way we build communities.

Serenbe was always meant to be part of the conversation about what’s possible. A model showing that communities can be walkable, connected to nature, rooted in agriculture and the arts, and designed around the well-being of the people who live in them.

So to see so many of you connect with that vision means more than we can say. Thank you for being here, for being curious, and for joining us in this conversation.

There’s a lot more to show you, so stick around. We’re really glad you’re here! taken in Serenbe by @serenbe

Ever dreamed of building your own micro village on a farm or in the forest?

25 years ago, @stevenygren heard a bulldozer in his backyard and started asking a question:

Does development have to look like this?

That question eventually became @serenbe .

Steve rallied more than 500 landowners around a conservation vision. Serenbe broke ground in 2004, and its first 40 lots sold in six weeks.

Today, it spans roughly 2,400 acres, with 800 homes and 1,500 residents - while preserving 70% of the land and clustering development on just 30%. There’s a 25-acre organic farm and more than 20 miles of nature trails woven through the community.

He didn’t set out to build a famous community… He started by caring deeply about the place right in front of him, asking whether there was a better way.

You don’t need 2,000 acres to begin. Start in your own backyard.

What if we didn’t have to choose between sustainability & beauty?

That’s what I love about @serenbe. None of it feels like sacrifice. It’s proof we don’t have to choose between building and preserving, density and nature, progress and beauty…

Who’s ready to build (or move to) a community like this one?!

When did we trade the pristine air of nature, the beauty of human connection, and the intimacy of the traditional village for cars, concrete, and sprawl?

I’ve admired @serenbe for years, but experiencing it in person blew me away.

It’s proof that we don’t have to choose between building and preserving, density & nature, progress & beauty.

Maybe the future of great places looks a lot like the villages we left behind. I sure hope!

Well done @stevenygren 👏
