After a yoga class the other day, a student told me I was the first teacher who ever instructed her to exhale through her mouth. It broke my heart. Yes, I understand that there is a time and place for breath control, but can we also trust the breath to move in ways that only it knows how? Can we trust the body to work in ways that only it knows how? Can we give ourselves permission to simply fucking be, in these exquisitely wise bodies with this exquisitely wise breath of life moving through us, moving us? May all women everywhere be wild, safe, and free. May all women everywhere claim their right to simply be. May all women everywhere be respected and revered, safe to feel, safe to play, safe to dance, safe to grieve. May all women everywhere be held and loved and blessed, safe to rest and close their eyes, safe to let down constant guard. Safe to surrender, safe to trust, safe to melt into soft clay. May all women everywhere know that they are held, down to their bones. Know their inner worth, know they are enough. Celebrated. celebrating. Being, being, being. May all women everywhere know that they are home. Home on the sweet earth, the kind earth, the fierce earth. Home in the storms and the stillness. Born from the soil and stars. Twinkling Sparkling Brilliant Luminous Wise. May all women everywhere be fierce, fiery, free. Velvety soft. Watery wet. Ever changing, ever Wild, ever true to their own tides. May the tides rise to swallow the horror and eat those who cause harm. May the menchildren who play with power they don’t deserve be pummelled into sand.
