Not since Annie Lenox have I felt so incredibly moved by the sheer power of talent as with Florence Welch. Simply put, she sends me. She puts on an amazing show (at Barclays) with virtually no special effects or gimmicks other than her otherworldly voice. Her songwriting is brilliant as well. As for her looks, I recently read that she is a Klimt painting put to life.
(I would also like add that I managed to get a last-minute front row VIP lounge seat off of Stubhub for 100 bucks.)
So many friends of mine hate going to big concerts but I love it!

@civiliansnyc
Went to the benefit last night for the 25th Anniversary of The Civilians. Luke Evans introduced Honoree Sam Pinkleton, the uber talented director of "Rocky Horror" and "Oh, Mary!"
Among the many highlights of the evening were a few numbers composed by my late great friend Michael Friedman, including the original cast performing a number from "Mr. Burns..."

Back in 2019, I had the amazing opportunity of participating in a crazy project called "The Second Woman" at BAM where the brilliant Alia Shawkat performed the same 10 minute scene over and over again for 24 hours with 100 different men. I was one of those men.
I recently saw Alia again in the excellent play "You Got Older" and got a chance to say hello.

Starting July 1st, all SCSEP programs- which provides training and/or employment for low-income, unemployed seniors, has been temporarily paused starting July 1 due to the removal of funding by our government. I work - err, worked - for MaturityWorks, one of the great SCSEP programs based in NYC. Thousands of seniors, who have been working diligently to make their way back into the work force, are now out of the small stipends they receive working for non-profits. It’s a tragedy. What’s next? Please write to your representatives to bring these much needed programs back. Immediately! by @sethflicker

Felice Picano - a legend in gay literature, a pioneer on many fronts- died this week. He was a very funny, bawdy, and bright charmer. I worked with him a few times when I was at Genre Magazine. Among a million other things he created SeaHorse Press, pioneered the Violet Quill, and edited The New Joy of Gay Sex. In a time when there seems be a dry spell of great gay-themed literature, Felice should be held in high esteem. RIP, my friend. #felicepicano #gayliterature #violetquill by @sethflicker

Hello friends, a few weeks ago I got “doored” by an Uber while I was biking. I flew over the door and broke my hand. Besides being a total drag, I lost a lot of income as I couldn’t do any handyman work (and still can’t for another month).
Can anyone recommend a decent lawyer who handles cases like this?
Please let me know.

In brief, the new Second City comedy club in Brooklyn is hot! Clean, modern, and sophisticated - two theaters, a restaurant/lounge, a school - it aims to be the comedy destination spot in NYC. Whether it’s can compete with my favorites Bell House/Union Hall has yet to be determined. I went the premier of Second City’s Improv production a couple of nights ago and had a blast. They delivered the goods in a solid 3 act show. Nothing too cutting edge but polished and fun. Perhaps a bit pricey for a comedy club but you should give it a shot. @secondcitynyc #secondcity by @sethflicker

Even at 97 it seemed like Norman Jewison was too young to leave this world.
I count myself incredibly lucky and blessed to be among those that worked closely to Norman. My first screenplay, The Turks of Brighton, was bought by Norman’s company, Yorktown Productions, when I was 21 years old. While that movie never came to fruition, a few years later, Norman asked me to write a 30-minute film for a Showtime series called Picture Windows for him to direct (“Sour Bleu” starring Alan Akin). To get to work with him at such a young age spoiled me for all future film experiences. For a man like Norman, the very definition of Hollywood Royalty, to spent so much time with this young writer meant the world to me. He was a friend and a mentor in ways I would never experience again. He was infinitely warm, wise, creative and generous in all ways- even lending me his personal office when I worked in L.A. The times we spent in Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto are indelible. As anyone who knew him could attest, no one could spin a yarn like Norman - about Judy and Barbra and Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway; about filming Fiddler on set in Yugoslavia and Moonstruck in Brooklyn. (I mean, I even met Arthur Miller and Gregory Peck through Norman…)
Norman was a romantic through and through. He loved making movies. He loved talented people. I think maybe most of all, he loved a good story. He was the consummate raconteur. The fact that he lived so long to tell so many amazing stories is a gift for the ages.
You will be missed and treasured, my friend. Xo.
