May 10th was her Gotcha’ Day-
10 weeks ago and look at how she has blossomed!!! She is looking so gorgeous! And we are so thankful to @cityveterinarycare, and Dr Kyles @hvsnyc, and Dr Cingaloni @amcny and oncology @vergbrooklyn for helping her
get to a glorious HOME! From severe neglect, severe dental disease and mammary cancer…
This precious girl is truly living her best life! @sydn3yx3 waited patiently for her to come back from Fla, as they knew she was worth it and getting even healthier still!!
Thank you for the pictures!!!
We can’t wait to visit all the scrumptiousness!!

I fostered her for eight months and while I do miss her, I could not give her the beautiful life she’s having now. Fostering is so vital to this process of rescue. It does take a courageous heart, but it is so worth it to help them to find their forever family!!
Fosters give them a chance.

Back in 2019, I had the amazing opportunity of participating in a crazy project called "The Second Woman" at BAM where the brilliant Alia Shawkat performed the same 10 minute scene over and over again for 24 hours with 100 different men. I was one of those men.
I recently saw Alia again in the excellent play "You Got Older" and got a chance to say hello.

Here is some of our work from this year and some of the lives you helped save.

This work would have been impossible without @cityveterinarycare who saw at least 38 of our animals this year!!
Many of the rescues were collaborative with the indefatigable and endlessly geneous @amyelizbennett and the rock stars at @harlemkittiechick1 .
We ❤️ you!!!

We are 🙏🏼to @amcny for the AMCTTR grants, to @humanesocietyny, and @hvsnyc for rescue discounts and
We had a lot of bonded pair adoptions this year and our first ever QUADRUPLE adoption to an amazing couple with a beautiful home that is now overflowing with feline bliss. 😻😻😻😻😻

We had some long timers find homes: Berwyn, Elijah, Cam and Matteo
We got lots of medical care for sick kitties;
Enzo got his eye surgery. Hadassah had thousands of $ of medical and 15 teeth removed!

MIdnight Miles marched up to our friend on a Harlem street asking for help and was quickly adopted, to be joined a few months later by Elijah, who was finally rescued after 10 months of watching him traverse a parking lot.
Milo, another halfway cat from outside our window, found his patient mama and a loving home.

Ziggy, the rooftop rescue kitty with the injured “wrist” found a wonderful home; Beautiful Frost, who jumped six stories to escape a fire, is now happily settled in with her new family.

We had a new resident join the Catness Protection Program, our relocation project which we will be focusing on more in the new year.

Dr Hadassah the teacup yorkie joined us in September.

To our amazing fosters and adopters and every donor:
YOU made this possible.
Thank you for all the love you gave in all different forms.
This work is exacting, exhausting and endless.
And it is fueled 💯 by the energy of love.

May you and yours have a safe holiday.
From all of us to all of you:
Happy New Year!!!

Special thanks to @klapperbonnie whose generosity and HUGE heart made us a legit 501 and able to help so many more animals.

For end of year tax dediction::

In honor of NYC’s next mayor, our theme cocktail for a recent gathering was The Socialist. Ingredients include three different types of rum, vermouth, bitters and more. It’s delicious. And especially fun when served with ice cubes that light up in different colors. (Thank you @sethflicker) Happy holidays, all. Cheers to friends, family, and let’s hope for some much-needed peace and understanding in these harsh times.

UPDATE:
Since we made this post Hadassah has come through all her surgeries and a full dental and has clean bill of health! She is ready for home so DM for application or email bethechangeanimalrescue@gmail.org (

URGENT PLEASE!!!
After Nipsey Russel, the $20k rescue dog, we were on Time Out. We have cats and kittens that need medical, adoptions are slow and funds are low.

However, less than 48 hours after Nipsey went to his forever home, this tiny creature crossed our path with divine timing. We met her seconds from being surrendered to NYPD and the city shelter. She was shaking and so terrified, we could not let a hectic shelter with risk of euthanasia be her next step.

Hadassah (means divine gift, salvation, and regeneration) has an EXCELLENT prognosis IF we get her procedures done before it is too late. Our hope is that surgery will stop any more breast masses, and after a serious dental procedure, she will be able to eat to her tiny heart’s content.

We have only 20 days from today: SEPT 21 to raise $2000. That is only $100 a day.

We have already spent $500 getting some of her vaccines, x-rays, and basic lab work. She has had a skin infection from living with all the matts and she desperately needs a pro grooming, which costs $150 even for a tiny dog!!!! (Anyone know groomer who works with rescues? DM info!)

PLEASE SHARE her story, and ask friends to FOLLOW and do the same.

Without a minimum of $2k, we will have to postpone and that keeps her unwell and further away from getting to her forever family.

This little girl has suffered a lifetime of neglect, and she is so READY FOR LOVE. She rolls over and shows her belly every chance she gets, is still shy with new people, and always needs to be close to her person.

The fundraiser is in our bio.
You can donate there, on the website or in many other ways.

She also needs a foster home in NYC close to our vet as she has regular appts in prep for her procedures. DM if you can help, even part time.

‼️EXCITING NEWS‼️

HAR has a new name and is now a 501c3 non-profit organization!

We changed the name with an expanded mission statement and vision for our future. More to come…

Please bear with us as we switch over our social media and payment options. The wonderful news for our donors is that anything you give us is now tax deductible!! We will be more easily able to fundraise and receive grants so that we can assist more animals and the people who care for them. For the moment, however, all donations are still being processed under the links we already have set up.

Between rescuing, adopting, finding fosters, putting out fires, working regular jobs, etc., we are having some challenges figuring out how to set everything up on the Meta charity payment options. If anyone has experience and can help out, please DM. Meta is very specific about its requirements and sorting through this information is not our skill set.

Also need admin help setting up records and an information database. And anyone with Wordpress skills, to help update the website, would be a miracle.

So if you, or someone you know, would like to assist animals in need, but don’t have time to rescue or foster, there are many ways we could use your help right now!!

Thank you to our incredible team of volunteers, fosters, and adopters who came out to see us at yesterday’s adoption event. And a huge thank you to @borisandhorton again for working with us to help these amazing pups find their forever homes.

We had three total adoptions! Happy tails to: Gertrude (slide 2), Simon (slide 3), and Blue (slide 4). These three lucky pups headed home last night with their forever families. We also met a ton of new fosters (which we always need more of)! If you have any questions about the fostering process please DM us, or visit our website barrkli.org to apply.

Our next event is next weekend (Sunday 4/21) in Sand City. Details to come! Can’t wait to see you there!
