🤝 Better Together! 💛

Great things happen when healthcare professionals learn from one another! Our Medical Spanish students and Doctor of Physical Therapy students came together for an interprofessional education experience focused on collaboration, communication, and patient-centered care.

By learning alongside one another, students strengthened their understanding of each other’s roles, explored the importance of language and cultural humility in healthcare, and discovered how teamwork can lead to better outcomes for the patients and communities they serve.

Because providing exceptional care takes more than individual expertise — it takes a team!

☀️ Taking learning outside!

Our 3rd-year DPT students brought their wheelchair skills lab outdoors as part of their Geriatrics course. Students practiced navigating real-world environments while building confidence with wheelchair mobility, safety, and problem-solving.

Because mobility doesn’t just happen in the lab—it happens on sidewalks, across uneven surfaces, and in the everyday environments where our patients live, work, and play. ♿️

Hands-on learning in pediatric physical therapy! 🦶

Our second-year DPT students practiced serial casting techniques as part of their pediatric coursework. Students are developing practical skills and learning how interventions can be used to support improved mobility and function in children.

It’s one thing to learn about a technique — it’s another to practice it! 💙

Learning beyond the classroom! 🧸

Children from the SHU Child Development Center joined our second-year DPT students for the preschool tests and measures lab. Working with young children gives students the opportunity to practice assessment skills while gaining experience observing movement, development, and functional abilities in a real-world setting.

A great opportunity to connect what they’re learning in the classroom with the children and families they’ll serve as future physical therapists! 💙

Seton Hill Doctor of Physical Therapy student Anna Roberts described her summer service trip to Peru with her classmates as “truly life-changing.” 🇵🇪

“We met some of the kindest and most welcoming people, and the trip taught us to take nothing for granted, be kind to everyone, and remember that there is always another way to figure things out.”

Each year, Seton Hill DPT students have the opportunity to take their learning and service beyond the classroom through international experiences while supporting patients with a variety of physical therapy needs. 🌎❤️

The SHU DPT students had the opportunity to learn from a local hospital PT/OT CICU team as they demonstrated safe and effective management of patients with lines, tubes, and drains. 🏥👏
