My beautiful niece asked me to make custom monogrammed napkins for her special day. Just napkins? Does she even know who her aunt is? One tablescape later…

Love is in the details:

• Custom hand-embroidered napkins and coordinating placemats.

• Hand made velvet bow napkin rings embroidered with her name.

• Nearly impossible-to-find blue NeeDoh squishies #needoh —the girls’ latest obsession—each paired with its own candelabra illuminated from below, casting a glow across the table as night fell.

-Custom-made soy “67” candles—if you know you know.

• A custom black glitz runner layered with black organza and hand stitched pearls.

• Hand-painted blue-and-white roses—blue being her favorite color of the moment.

• Blue glassware and a different plate pattern at every setting, to mix it up and keep it fun.

Bali Birthday Bash

Themed Dinner Two: Balinese Night 🪷

A Balinese-inspired dress request set the tone—and almost everyone rose to the occasion. One guest missed the dress code memo- luckily, I had an extra tablecloth lying around, draped as a makeshift sarong, and he was suddenly very Balinese.

The tablescape glowed in rich reds and oranges, layered with ceremonial temple umbrellas sourced from local markets, lotus-shaped votive holders, and lotus napkin folds finished with chirp napkin rings. Crisp white linen napkins, bordered in red and edged with bright orange embroidery, were set with intention at each place. Local florals completed the scene, while the traveling Ganesh egg rested at the center—adding just the right spiritual touch.

As night fell, guests were surprised and delighted by traditional Balinese fire dancers and flame eaters poolside, creating a moment no one expected.

One birthday. Many tables. More to come. ✨

Bali Birthday Bash
Night Three: White Disco — The Official Birthday Dinner 🤍🪩

All white. Bali night air.
Disco-ball runners down a long wooden table. Candlelight against white temple umbrellas — shimmer layered over tradition.

Hand-embroidered linen napkins. A metallic lotus with my “M” at the center. Disco name cards catching the light, disco ball vases reflecting the light. The table was aglow. Every detail intentional.

At the head of the table: my traveling Ganesh egg — silent, sacred.

Donna Summer. Grace Jones. The playlist rising.

My friends egged me on.
It was my birthday — I struck a pose.

But the table held the real moment.

One by one, they spoke. They shared.
Stories spanning decades.
A living timeline — told by the people who walked it with me.

Lifelong friendships that began at birth.
Friendships that carried me through childhood.
Through the high school years that shaped us.
And the friends I choose — and who choose me — in this chapter of my life.
All at one table.

When worlds collide, it doesn’t always work.
This time, it did.

Different chapters.
One table. 🤍🪩

Bali Birthday Bash 🪷
Week Two: And Then There Were Four…

The villa originally booked for the “girls only” week of celebration wasn’t what I had envisioned once we arrived. What could have fallen short quietly rerouted us — exactly to where we were meant to be.

My longtime Bali home, The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali @theoberoibeachresortbali stepped in with their exceptional hospitality I’ve come to love over the decades. Within hours, we were settled — private, luxurious, serene and I was back at my beloved Bali home again, this time able to share my special place with my girlfriends.

On our final evening, I set the table poolside outside of my private pool villa. Warm Balinese air, candlelight and the scent of frangipani wafting through the night. Just after it was set and ready it started to downpour. The rains just made the vibe that much more magical.

The fifth and final table.
Five tables.
Two weeks.
Ten friends.
Friends who crossed oceans.

An extraordinary birthday — unfolding one table at a time. Thank you to all of my dear friends who flew across the world to celebrate my birthday. I’ll be forever grateful to have celebrated in one of my special places with all of you. 🙏🏻❤️

Thank you @theoberoibeachresortbali for the beautiful and kind birthday gift of the traveling Ganesh egg, a gift I will treasure forever. 🙏🏻❤️

Bali Birthday Bash 🪷

Private villas, beloved friends, and tables set with intention.

Night one: the Welcome Dinner.
Each place setting with custom linen napkins, hand-embroidered with every guest’s name—keepsakes to be taken home—carried halfway around the world in a 69.5-lb suitcase devoted entirely to two weeks of tablescape love. ❤️

At the heart of every table-setting: my traveling, hand-painted Ganesh egg—a sacred gift I will treasure forever. In Bali, where daily life is steeped in Hindu tradition, Ganesh—the beloved Hindu god and remover of obstacles—quietly blessed each gathering with protection, abundance, and new beginnings.

One birthday. Many tables. More to come.
This was only the beginning.
