Such a pleasure to be featured in this bimonthly edition of @rmwilliamsoutbackmagazine

@knewsomedia and I dusted off journals from age 12 to now, which continue to explore the same insects, honeybees, and now farmers more broadly, their different practices and relationship with the changing land across Asia, the Pacific and East Africa.

To be lead by passion and curiosity makes life all too fun

Massive thanks to industry for always supporting me & the programs, projects and community who continue to make this possible by @sevenhoneybees

“So, what breed are you representing at Casino Beef Week?”
“Nguni!”
“N-whaaaat?”
“Nguni”!
That’s how most convos go but I’m rather smitten about representing these cows at @casinobeefweek
May 23-31st !

In this video, there are both pure bred and crossed Nguni showcasing the benefits of their traits on a commercial cattle farm

At a time when it seems all too common to capitalise on inciting fear through the notion that we should be scared of each other’s differences, it was a relief to find solice in the congregation of curious minds at the Universal Youth Leadership Summit in Hanoi.
Representatives from Mexico to Iceland, Kazakhstan and Mongolia to Russia, Algeria to Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia to India and in between, it was noice, different, unusual to prep Aus.
Learned about each-other’s cultures and engaged in thought provoking discussions and activities oriented around the themes: global citizenship, remote leadership and cultural intelligence… definitely left with more questions than answers!
Inspiring to be around such passionate visionaries creating change in their communities that help make the world as we wish it to be: inclusive, equitable and peaceful
Difference doesn’t inherently come with friction. Even if it did, friction in the right way makes so much good possible - ain’t that exciting!
Thanks to all who made it possible. Looking forward to next year 🗺️ by @sevenhoneybees

The transitional period between season has got to be one of my favourites. While the air has a bite to it, its been a beautiful time to be in Kara Suu village, Kyrgyzstan with Djumas family.
The cows, sheep and goats are herded from the summer mountain pastures back to the village where they’ll spend the winter. Hay is being harvested and dried in pyramids or balanced on the tree tops so the livestock can’t reach it before being stored in the hayloft. Beehives brought down earlier than usual due to bears and full honey barrels heaved to their place in the kitchen by the fire. Buckets of apples and pears are lowered by rope from the trees and prepared for market. Plum and walnut trees are climbed and vigorously shaken before the race to see who can fill their bag quickest begins.
Constant laughs over hearty meals, piggyback adventures though walnut forests and some very competitive games of volleyball at school!

Some snaps from the past few weeks in the Solomon Islands with Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) project Family Farm Teams. Working with rural farming communities to enhancing agricultural development opportunities and address gender inequality through a family based approach.
What a treat to witness firsthand the ways this projects impact and better understand the effectiveness of aid and development programs in the pacific.
Plus some added bonus’s of harvesting Megapode eggs, a gathering of people from 12 different villages to transcribe manuals into their provincial dialect, some very intense games of soccer and a bumping into old friends

A little ‘Fiji beekeeping so far’ dump after the first Pacific Island Beekeeping Congress which had beekeepers from nearly all pacific island nations.
Learning about Pacific beekeeping, impact of good genetics introduction (queens sent to Fiji from Aus through ACIAR ), the various environmental and social challenges beekeepers face, the relevance of climate change, how their industry can be more sustainable - the list goes on and on… with no sign of it ending thank goodness!😊 by @sevenhoneybees

The hum of bees, blunnies, utes, trucks, forklifts, ratchet straps, wipper snipers, gates, microscopes... some fun days at Tocal

Feeling stoked to be part of research happening to strengthen the apiculture industry which so often provides the foundations for other agricultural sectors to exist.
