We had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Emily Jordan this past week to learn more about her photography business and background here in Seward.

Her niche is photographing elopements, and as we learned, these celebrations of love can look many different ways; beyond what people may traditionally imagine. Emily helps clients thoughtfully and intentionally build their ideal elopement with an intimate ceremony of up to 10 guests. She focuses on creating an authentic and meaningful experience for clients rather than relying on a stressful wedding checklist. Another huge perk? She works alongside and provides recommendations to clients for local businesses, caterers, and services, supporting our Seward economy and other women in business.

Seward is the main character in every story. She says, “Seward has no bad angles,” and in each photo session, she aims to capture love and memories under the natural beauty and backdrop of our wild landscapes. As you can see in her photo galleries, there are no limits to where she will shoot- with clients exchanging vows beneath epic glaciers, rocky mountain tops, and rugged fjords.

Seward is Emily’s home where she fell in love, built a family, and has made lifelong connections. She is grateful to all the people who have been there for her and invested in her journey since the very beginning.

We are so excited for our upcoming October Chamber events including the first Chamber Luncheon of the season at the Breeze Inn on October 8th. @seward_parks will be doing a presentation on the plans they have in store for the Middle School turned Community Center!

Later in the month, we will be hosting our annual Ladies Who Launch panel at @resurrect.art with the topic “Breaking Barriers”- 6:30pm on Thursday, October 22nd!

We had such a fun, relaxing time in the bay yesterday evening on our annual VOLUNTEER CRUISE generously provided by @kenaifjordstours!

Some highlights include a smack of jellyfish, sea lions, and mountain goats! Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers- we couldn’t run our events without your help and we are truly so grateful 🫶 taken in Seward, Alaska by @sewardchamber

Congratulations to our two local Dorothy Urbach Prize winners, Jenny Rutledge and Paul Paquette! Both Jenny and Paul caught the heaviest fish in the local anglers division and reeled in $1,000 each! The official 71st Annual Seward Silver Salmon Derby prize list is here! Way to get out there and reel in some solid silver catches 🎣

If you’re a prize winner and missed the Awards Ceremony, don’t fret! We’ll be reaching out to all prize winners by email over the next couple days with information on your prize distribution. With lots of prizes to process please allow us time to get everything prepared! Per Derby rules, prizes will be distributed within 21 days.

We had a two way tie for both 10th place and smallest fish of the derby! Per derby rules, we flipped a coin to determine the prize winner.

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our 2026 Derby Champion, Kodi Straight of Anchorage, with his 15.41 lb silver salmon he brought in on Day 1- right at 7:58pm before we closed the booth for the day! He wins the $10,000 grand prize + $500 of @froggtoggs gear! 🤘 taken in Seward, Alaska by @sewardchamber

The Silver Salmon Derby Awards and Social gathering is TOMORROW afternoon at the Breeze Inn restaurant and lounge!
