It Shouldn’t Be Luck. This week, we gathered at the DVF store for an important conversation about sexual assault on college campuses, the Cornell case, and the bigger question we all need to be asking: How did we get here? How did we create a culture where sexual violence is so often normalized, where bystanders stay silent, where accountability is the exception rather than the rule, and where a young woman’s safety can feel like a matter of luck? The Cornell case is not an isolated incident. It is a reflection of something much bigger—what we teach our children, what we allow them to ignore, and the messages our culture sends about sex, power, entitlement, and empathy. We cannot keep treating each new case as a shocking exception without examining the culture that makes these cases possible. And we cannot expect change unless we’re willing to connect the dots—from what our children see online, to what they learn about relationships and consent, to what happens on college campuses and how our institutions respond. Women's safety should never come down to luck. Thank you to @therealdvf for creating space for this necessary conversation. The work of changing our culture starts with being willing to confront how we got here—and what each of us can do differently @worldweus @alexi @sffny @dbinthesky @pabeywardena @christineemba by @sffny
"No means no" is not enough. Silence is not consent. Being unable to say no is not consent. Consent is a clear, enthusiastic, ongoing yes. #WeAreSanctuary by @sffny

Three years ago, Sanctuary hosted our first survivor-owned business fair in a small storefront, with 15 entrepreneurs and a whole lot of energy. 🎉 Today, the number of participating businesses has doubled to 30, attendance has tripled, and the revenue our entrepreneurs generate keeps climbing. Sanctuary’s Survivor-Owned Small Business Fair celebrates the talents, creativity, and vision of survivor entrepreneurs. Behind every table is a survivor building something of their own, and they deserve to be celebrated not only for what they have overcome, but for what they are building and contributing to our communities. Thank you to everyone who attended, and to partners like Hilton and VIP, for your ongoing support. 💜 by @sffny

The Administration for Children's Services and the child welfare system were not designed with domestic violence in mind. Survivors face being investigated as perpetrators. Abusers can weaponize false reports. The investigative process can replicate dynamics of surveillance and control that survivors are already experiencing from their abusers. And the fear of losing their children can keep many survivors from seeking help at all — a fear that falls hardest on marginalized communities. If you are a survivor, or you work with survivors of gender violence who have been investigated by the ACS, join us for a Know-Your-Rights webinar on the ACS investigation process in NYC. 📅 Monday, October 19 | 1:00 PM 🔗 Register at the link in our bio. by @sffny
Why is the issue of campus sexual assault so intractable? What can we learn from the current moment? What steps can we take to keep students safe and prevent further violence? Join us for a webinar to explore these issues and learn more about Sanctuary's Campus Advocates Project. Sanctuary for Families has been a leader in this space since 2015. We work with students, faculty, and staff on college/university campuses who have suffered gender-based violence and sexual assault, and advocate on their behalf as they navigate the often-fraught processes of bringing a claim under Title IX and the criminal justice system.
