🌟🏆BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD - FINALISTS SPOTLIGHT🌟🏆

Ahead of our Business Excellence Award and AGM night, we will be spotlighting our finalists in all 10 categories!

Today - we're spotlight the incredible work of @hemingwaysbarbershop; a finalist in the Employer of the Year category!

What makes Hemingway’s a great employer? That’s a hard question for me to answer. From the day we opened our doors in 2024, our goal was to create an environment for people to flourish, learn and build a foundation for a long career in the barbering industry. Having a comfortable space where we can lean on each other and celebrate achievements together.

Building up our local community has always been a priority. If our shop is somewhere where that can happen when welcoming a new barber to the industry or giving a seasoned veteran a place to pass on knowledge to the next generation, then I think we’ve really tapped into something special. Having a business where all the employees genuinely enjoy each other‘s company and spend time together outside of the barbershop is a testament to the culture we’ve created inside these four walls. by @sgbchamber

🌟🏆BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD - FINALISTS SPOTLIGHT🌟🏆

Ahead of our Business Excellence Award and AGM night, we will be spotlighting our finalists in all 10 categories!

Today - we're spotlight the incredible work of Asselin Insurance Brokers ado McDougall; a finalist in the Heritage category!

For more than 80 years, Asselin Insurance has been part of the fabric of Penetanguishene and the surrounding communities.

The story began in 1943, when Romeo J. Asselin started his general insurance business from the family home in Perkinsfield. In 1952 Romeo opened the doors to his storefront office at 15 Robert Street West in Penetanguishene.

What started as a small, family-run business grew steadily over the decades, while remaining true to its local roots. Romeo’s son, Ronald, joined the brokerage in 1966 and took over ownership when his father retired in 1983. Under Ronald’s leadership, the brokerage embraced changing times, welcomed new employees and clients, and grew through the acquisition of Vince Moreau Insurance Brokers in 1987 and Murphy Insurance Services in 2006.

In 2018, the Asselin legacy entered its third generation when Romeo’s grandson, Rene J.D. Asselin, became President and owner. Rene proudly carried forward the family legacy while helping shape the future of the brokerage. For over 80 years and three generations, the Asselin family has built the business around something that has never changed — strong, lasting relationships with the people and communities they serve.

In 2020, Asselin Insurance joined the McDougall Insurance family, bringing together two organizations with deep Ontario roots and a shared commitment to their communities.

From a small insurance office in Perkinsfield to a trusted brokerage serving generations of local families, Asselin Insurance is proud of its past, grateful for the people who helped shape it, and excited for the future. by @sgbchamber
