Hey, I’m Sophie G❤️‍🔥 Noticed a lot of new faces here so I wanted to reintroduce myself 💋 I’m a muralist and illustrator based in Connecticut, creating work rooted in color, storytelling, and a strong sense of place through a feminine lens. My murals often center women, celebrating identity, perseverance, and the power of feminine connection. I’m interested in how public art can make people feel seen, grounded, and a part of something bigger. 🎟️❤️ Some of my work lives on walls for brands like Walmart and LesserEvil, but the heart of my work will always be about people, their presence, and the stories that they hold lasting generations. When I’m not painting you’ll find me collaging miscellaneous items, scrapbooking postcards, listening to music & spending time in nature with animals & good company 🧡 Glad you’re here, and thank you for supporting my art 🍒🫶🏻❤️ If you want to check more of my work out take a peak on my website or my etsy! #meettheartist #womenwhopaint #muralists #murals #muralsofinstagram #publicart #illustratorlife #communitymural #womanownedbusiness #ct #connecticut #ctartist #ctartists #creativewomen #illustration #illustrator #newenglandartist by @sgroenart

“Beauty that Bites” ❤️‍🔥🌱 This mural is centered around the empowerment of women through natural elements. Over the past year I’ve experienced many forms of hardship and personal growth, and this piece embodies that journey. The Venus flytraps symbolize power, resilience, and the ability to protect oneself, while the dragonflies represent transformation, vulnerability, and fleeting moments of change. The spikes in the background represent the instinct to shield oneself- while the crimson and clover tones create a striking duality: strength and softness, power and vulnerability. There’s tension between the need to protect and the possibility of embracing life’s softer moments. I gravitate towards painting women who are bold, confident, and strong. In many ways they represent something I aspire to be, or perhaps something I already am but continue to grow into. Painting these women is therapeutic and helps me understand and grow into my own strengths. Through this piece, I aim to capture not just external strength, but the internal journey of self-discovery, resilience, and empowerment. I’m very thankful to have been welcomed back by @has_galleries @hartfordartschool to create this mural for the Dream Murals Exhibit amongst a talented array of fellow alumni 💫 If you want to check out all of our murals, this show will be running until April 12th in Silpe Gallery at The Hartford Art School And many thanks to the wonderful @bushsbakedbeanss for assisting & bringing this project to life 🩷 I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this project, it’s so special working with women artist, bonding over life and the creation of art! ✨ 📸 @definingstudios by @sgroenart

Some childhood memories have a way of coming full circle 🌙 Growing up, my mom painted my bedroom into an enchanted world inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Every night I fell asleep beneath swirling skies surrounded by something beautiful that she had created just for me. That mural would become one of my earliest inspirations to become an artist. Years later, I was given the opportunity to paint a bedroom mural for a little girl through Make-A-Wish Connecticut. I realized I was experiencing the other side of one of my most treasured childhood memories. There is something so special about expressing love through your craft. My mom gave me a world to dream in, and now I had the chance to create one for someone else. I hope this room brings her even a fraction of the comfort, wonder, and magic that mine brought me. Thank you to @makeawishct for allowing me to be a small part of something so meaningful. #connecticut #muralist #murals #painter #vangoghart by @sgroenart

At the beginning of this year I made a decision that felt a little extreme at the time and gave myself the space to really prioritize being an artist. I said yes to a six month artist residency, to intentionally making room for experimentation, growth, and work that wasn’t tied to a client, deadline, or commission. I didn’t know exactly what would come from it. I just knew I needed the space to make things for myself again. And somewhere along the way, the residency became about so much more than having a place to paint. It became a reminder that growth doesn’t always look like doing more. Sometimes it looks like slowing down long enough to figure out what you actually want to make. I think that’s what this season has given me most: the chance to become curious about my own work again❤️ #artresidency #artist #painter #artistresidency #portraitpaintings by @sgroenart

@oliviarodrigo + HFD = <3 💕💌 Custom illustrated playing cards gifted directly to Olivia Rodrigo in collaboration with @peoplesbankarena ♥️ This project was such a fun way for me to get back into illustration. I love diving into research when I start a new project so naturally that meant creating mood boards, watching her music videos, and listening to her music on repeat to capture the overall feeling and visual language of her newest album. Knowing Olivia carries a deck of playing cards in her bag made the idea feel even more special. I wanted to create something personal that she could take with her while weaving little pieces of Hartford into each card so she’d have something to remember the city by. 💌 Such an amazing way to open her tour. 💕 please tag @livieshq share with the rest of her fans. What happens when you spend six months everyday working in an art studio? During my artists-in-residency with @artsfvac I wanted to not only learn how to improve my painting skills but also improve my connection to womanhood, femininity, and the many feelings every woman can resonate with through visual art. This experience of painting was paired with journaling prompts from the Artist Way, video journals, reflection, and even talking to myself in the car lol. This residency taught me a whole lot in such a short span and I’m so grateful to have called FVAC a creative home for my ideas ❤️‍🔥 #muralist #painter #womenartist #ctartist #portraitpainting by @sgroenart

Hard work. Resilience. Pride in your craft. Yesterday on Labor Day I found myself thinking about Sparks of Labor, the mural I painted this summer in Hamilton, Ohio. Growing up in a working-class family I was taught from a young age to take pride in hard work, to show up, use your hands, and feel good about what you’ve built at the end of the day. Sparks of Labor was created as a tribute to the hands that built Hamilton, from steel and paper mill workers to the rail workers and generations of people whose labor shaped the city. Somewhere along the way it also became a reflection of the values I grew up with. Feeling especially grateful that I got to tell that story on such a large scale. ❤️ #laborday #murals #muralist #muralart #muralartist taken in Hamilton, Ohio by @sgroenart
