We just can't get enough of the amazing mural by @sgroenart . Jessica, owner of Saybrook Hardware and Sophie worked together to design a mural that truly felt like Old Saybrook. Sophie was truly a gem and really became part of the Saybrook Hardware crew while she worked on the mural. Even better - all the paint she used came directly from the store! @benjaminmoore exterior paints can do it all! Next time you're on Main Street stop by to take a picture with the mural. And to Sophie - thank you so much for all your hard work, we really appreciate your time and effort. We love the work you do 🖌️🎨❤️

What can I say….

Last Thursday I was announced as the overall Influential Woman of the Year for Northwest Indiana. It was the most RIDICULOUS surprise and a heartfelt honor for me personally and professionally. 🥰

I’ve basked in the joy for a week and wanted to openly share my gratitude for this public honor.

The seed of creation started in my heart long before being an executive director of a Creative District, or an art educator of elementary students for 14 years, or being an entrepreneur of my own graphic design company for 10 years.

It started as a child in quiet moments where this love for the arts met me one on one - physically grabbing a hold of me as a prompting of what I was called to do. I naturally found my way by “teaching” stuffed animals how to draw, “designing” a blueprint for the clubhouse my dad would eventually build, “envisioning” my attire with colored pencils and Barbie fashion plates, “painting” colors into designated numbers on canvases, and ultimately “training” myself to see what didn’t exist - in order to call it into existence for others to SEE.

This is my story.

Being nominated for The NWI Influential Women’s Award @nwiiwa helped me reflect and write this story out, not knowing if I’d become a finalist.

Then I was.

Being selected amongst peers and then being selected as “Overall Influential Woman of the Year” is a precious recognition for me.

Thank you NWI Influential Woman’s Association who - for 15 YEARS - has recognized women in this way.

Thank you to @creative_commander Andrea Pearman for being such a voice for women in this celebration.

Thank you to the many leaders who wrote recommendation letters on my behalf, you know who you are.

Thank you to my VOLUNTEER team of board members and execs who make this work possible!

Thank you to the artists who make me feel like family, as a recognized fellow creator.

Thank you to my friends and family… my momma and my two kids… who see me work the hardest and feel the weight of my calling more than others. 🙏🏼

This is what a calling does!!! I am honored to be a woman acknowledged in this monumental way.

Congratulations + thank you to everyone (more than 50 people!) who helped bring Sparks of Labor to life! 🎉🎨

This new mural on the side of @meyerbrothersandsons78 on Maple Avenue honors Hamilton's rich industrial heritage and the generations of workers, makers, and innovators who helped shape our community. It's a beautiful new addition that welcomes residents and visitors into the Jefferson neighborhood while celebrating our past and looking toward the future.
