This time, last year…

Set in Kālā Pānī jail (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), @subhashinigoda.dance and I wrote, directed and performed a story that linked historical timelines and addressed duality.

Using the cyclicity of the 5 Islamic prayers, our two characters, from opposing worlds, uncovered similarities in their journeys and dismantled their own systems of oppression - internal and external.

This piece marked the first time the Islamic call to prayer, the Azaan, was recited in a theatre space in Dublin - and that too by a woman ✨🙋🏽‍♀️ #alhamdulilah

KĀLĀ PĀNĪ was birthed from our desire to recognise South Asian womanhood - to honour its legacy - and our need to highlight narratives that were drowned during the Partition.

Grateful for our team, @sceneandheardfestivalofnewwork and @smockalleytheatre

I, along with the support, love and dedication of these beautiful humans, and a plethora of others, put together Passports for @dublinfringefest 🥰

A year later, one thing that I believe with absolute conviction is that the conversation that we created/started/held was deeply cathartic to everyone who was in that space - on, off and behind the stage.

There’s much more I want to say and much more I want to share, and maybe one day I will…but it hasn’t felt right or just celebrating this achievement - especially with the gut wrenching state of the world which feels like it’s worsening with each passing day.

So for now here’s to celebrating the tribe that believed in me and believed that this was worth doing ♥️

WE did that.

We all walked away feeling lighter, more of ourselves, and a little more hopeful of humanity ✨

A year on, I want to anchor that sentiment ⚓️♥️🍉

We are so excited to share our collaborative sound work, now showing at 41st EVA International until October 25th.

This installation was made possible through the Platform Commissions programme. Huge thanks to selectors Iarlaith Ní Fheorais and Roy Claire Potter, who invited artists to respond to ideas and definitions of access.

This project has felt like a very true joint labour and we are deeply grateful to our collaborators @dagogo_hart, @rima_jpeg, @sha.eirah and our guide throughout, @listengallery for the chance to learn together and to put into action the power of the tongue.

Swipe to read our letter of gratitude and find participants’ bios 💌

Call Centre Sound Structure, 2025
This installation weaves together archival recordings, field sounds, and oral histories from Rima Hamid, Dagogo Hart, and Shaéirah. Set in a fictional Irish call centre, it follows three guided monologues exploring precarity, labour, and class as experienced by the migrant workforce. Each voice carries fragments of lived experience while responding to the call centre environment. Through sonic layering, the work asks: What new social formations might emerge through attentive acts of listening and speaking? by @sha.eirah

SO, @subhashinigoda and I are doing a thing for @sceneandheardfestivalofnewwork later this month 💁🏽‍♀️

Kālā Pānī (trans. “‘Black Water”), a short play, is based on the British colonial prison of the same name, in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It was the setting for India’s colonial government to exile criminals, political prisoners and freedom fighters who sought and fought for India’s independence.

Our story begins with two freedom fighters in one prison cell…

Grab your ticket to find out how it ends.

• passports - a conversation with Ayesha Syeddah & friends •

My first show is taking place next week at the @projectartscentre for the @dublinfringefest 🎈

Difficult conversations are necessary conversations. I’m not one to shy away from them but living in Ireland, I realise that I am an anomaly.

The inspiration behind the show is rooted in creating a space and dialogue between friends that proudly take ownership of their hyphenated identities in a place that doesn’t quite know what to do with them.

We are here to talk about the dualities of that existence.

Of what matters to us,
what make us belong,
the homes we were born in,
the homes we had to leave,
and the homes we are creating..

We are migrants. And these are our stories ♥️

• SHAÉIRAH •/ˈʃɑːirrɑː/

a modern day iteration of the Urdu, Hindi and Persian word shayera meaning poetess. ‘sha’ is an ode to my Sufi lineage, ‘eir’ is raising the glass to my home, the Emerald Isle and ‘ah’ is honouring the origin ✨
