The Imara Young Leaders Fellowship Annual Convening 2026 – Tanzania Edition brought together inspiring young leaders for powerful conversations on leadership development, peacebuilding, integrity, accountability, inclusion and sustainable change.

From insightful sessions and thought-provoking discussions to fellows’ testimonies and meaningful networking, every moment reinforced the importance of empowering young people to lead with purpose, innovate boldly and create lasting impact in their communities.

Guided by the theme “Young Leaders Steering Innovation, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Change,” we continue to nurture a generation of ethical, inclusive and action-oriented leaders ready to shape a better future.

Put a room full of young leaders together and you can be sure the conversations won’t be short of opinions! 😅

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of moderating the Imara Young Leaders Fellowship, and I must say, I enjoyed every bit of it. We got into conversations about the role of young people in peacebuilding, leadership with integrity, inclusion, accountability and responsible decision-making. We also got to meet fellow leaders, hear a little about their journeys and exchange perspectives on what it means to lead.✨

But you know how one conversation can open up five more? We got into the question of sacrifice in leadership: Just how much should a leader be willing to sacrifice?

Some argued that a leader should give everything, while others felt that there must be a limit; that serving others should not mean abandoning yourself in the process. And honestly, both sides gave us something to think about.

Because yes, leadership calls for sacrifice. But where do we draw the line between being committed to others and neglecting ourselves? How do we keep showing up for the people we lead without forgetting that we, too, need care?

Spaces like this excite me because leadership is not something we should only discuss from the pages of books or the positions we hold. It is also in the stories we share, the questions we dare to ask, the perspectives that challenge ours and the lessons we pick up from one another. You leave with alot to think about and, the urge to be more intentional about the leader you choose to be.

A big thank you to @imaraleadership for bringing us together. Moderating the conversations was a pleasure, but getting to learn alongside everyone else made the experience even better. And that sacrifice debate? We might need a part two! 😁

81 years of the United Nations✨🇺🇳.

81 years of the United Nations.✨🇺🇳

That’s 81 years of trying to make the world more liveable, more just, and a little less indifferent to the struggles people face.

Yesterday, as we marked UN Day in Tanzania, UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Susan Ngongi Namondo, reflected on a reality that is hard to ignore, the world we’re working for keeps changing, and the work has to keep changing with it.

The UN has stood alongside governments and communities, supporting efforts to improve lives, protect rights, and make development possible where it’s needed most. That work deserves to be recognised. Yet, the changing world also calls for us to think about how we sustain that work and continue making a difference.

Perhaps that’s what makes this anniversary meaningful. The work of building a better world doesn’t come with a finished script. It asks us to keep learning, keep adapting, and keep showing up.

It was also an absolute honor to encounter Hon. Abdallah Ulega(@abdallahulega), Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Happy 81st anniversary, United Nations✨🇺🇳. The world has changed, and so must our approach to building a better one. by @shadya_kitenge

The algorithm moves information. But behind every scroll are real lives, real struggles, and realities that deserve more than a passing glance on our screens.

When we use our digital platforms to bring these realities into view, a post can become the beginning of a wider conversation, and that conversation can reach those with the power to make a difference in these realities. What we share may travel further than we ever will.

That is why spaces like the Women’s Parliamentary Conference matter, because the realities of women and girls must find their way into conversations about peace, security, and the decisions that shape both.

Let’s put our platforms to work.✨

Tuwezeshe Akina Dada( in Aisha’s voice). Whew what a fellowship! ✨😊

The sessions were rich, the conversations, immaculate, and the women I met? Absolutely incredible. So much to learn, so many brilliant people to learn from.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is PRIVILEGE. We are indeed privileged. We access knowledge, opportunities, and freedoms that aren’t everyone’s reality.

A big thank-you to @forwarduk_ , @cdf_tanzania , and everyone who poured their time, thought, and care into making this fellowship such a memorable experience. I’m leaving with plenty to reflect on, and a lot of love for the women I got to share it with. 💛 by @shadya_kitenge

Consider this, An Encounter with the Possible.✨

Under normal circumstances, you might ask yourself, “Would I ever get the chance to meet the UN Women Country Representative?

Plan International Tanzania through #GirlsTakeover said yes girl, and how about taking on their role for a day?😅

I remain very amused till this day and choose to relive this.

The whole takeover experience has been worthwhile. The eye opening and the very insightful trainings offered by such reputable organizations including Plan International themselves (@plan_tanzania), UNICEF (@uniceftz), Children’s Dignity Forum (@cdf_tanzania), Mo Dewji Foundation ( @modewjifoundation) and GIZ all committing to the empowerment, betterment and rise of girls in a number of areas such as education, freedom from violence and leadership to mention a few.

Came, the very exciting take over. A rare opportunity to see, understand and experience the work, thought, and responsibility of shaping lives, protecting rights, and influencing the futures of others. Equally important, to deliver the message on the girl child. Her passions, capabilities, fears and what would help her achieve whatever she desires to.

I leave this experience very grateful to everyone and every institution that made it possible, meaningful, interesting, inspiring and exciting. And, I carry with me, the amazing conversations, hilarious moments, thought provoking challenges, and incredible young women I met.

The International Day of the Girl Child. ✨

This year we champion Ending Child Marriage and Investing in the Future of Girls. We also celebrate the fact that the Girl Child is capable, amazing, inspiring, creative, unique, and the list goes on. SHE JUST HAS TO OWN IT (yes YOU!)

PS: You could tell the keyword was POSSIBLE, because so much more is POSSIBLE FOR THE GIRL than she may have been led to believe. 💛
