Shabbat Shalom! The more we learn about what happened aboard that Flydubai flight, the more disturbing this story becomes.

What began as reports of a co-pilot attacking the captain and allegedly attempting to bring down a plane carrying Israeli passengers has now taken another turn, as investigators reportedly uncover new information about the suspect and his motivations.

And those details raise some very serious questions.

This was not simply a frightening incident in the skies. If the reported findings are confirmed, we need to ask whether this was a deliberate act of terrorism and whether Israelis were specifically targeted.

And let’s not forget the extraordinary courage of the passengers and crew who reportedly intervened, restrained the attacker, and helped prevent what could have been an unimaginable tragedy.

There is still much that needs to be established, and allegations are not the same as confirmed findings. But one thing is certain: the world deserves answers, and the people aboard that aircraft deserve justice.

Today is October 7th.

And there will be people who will desperately try to make today about anything and everything except October 7th.

I refuse. And so should you.

I will not be dragged into a debate today. I will not be baited into an argument. I will not allow anyone to hijack this day and redirect the conversation somewhere else.

Not today.

Today is about the Israelis who were murdered on October 7th.

It is about the families slaughtered in their homes.

It is about the young people who went to dance at a music festival and never came home.

It is about the communities that woke up to a nightmare.

It is about the people who were kidnapped from their homes, from a festival, from their beds, and dragged into Gaza as hostages.

It is about the people who survived and will carry that morning with them for the rest of their lives.

That is what October 7th is about.

October 7th belongs to the memory of the people who were murdered, to the people who were taken hostage, to the survivors, and to the families whose lives were shattered that morning.

Do not allow anyone to convince you that remembering them requires an asterisk.

It doesn’t.

Grief does not require a counterargument.

Mourning does not require a debate.

And remembrance does not require permission.

October 7th was an attack on Israel and its people.

Today, we remember them.

Today, we say their names.

Today, we mourn what was stolen.

May the memory of every person murdered on October 7th be a blessing.

And may we never, ever allow the world to forget them.

What happened aboard the FlyDubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv is extraordinary.

According to reports, the co-pilot, who is from Oman, stabbed the captain during the flight. Israeli passengers, together with members of the crew, reportedly sprang into action, overpowered him and restrained him, allowing the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

Given the circumstances, this certainly raises the possibility of a terrorist attack, but that has NOT been officially confirmed. We will wait for the investigation and the facts before calling it one.

But what we can talk about right now is the bravery of the people on that plane.

Israelis ran toward the danger.

There is something about growing up Israeli that teaches you that when something happens, you don’t wait for someone else to act. You act. You protect the person beside you. You do whatever you can to save lives.

I don’t romanticize that instinct. In many ways, it’s an instinct Israelis have developed because we’ve had to.

But today, it may very well have saved an airplane full of people.

May everyone aboard get home safely, and may the captain make a full recovery.

Candles are no longer just for lighting… because apparently even our candles need to understand the assignment. 😂🕯️

Today on TMS, we’re talking about how candles have become part of the overall design concept of a space.

Think beyond the scent. Think about the shape of the candle, the colour, the vessel it comes in, and how that vessel works with the rest of your decor. And even better? Think about what that vessel can become once the candle is finished. A vase? A catch-all? A little decor moment? We love a candle with a second career. 😂

Because if it smells amazing, looks beautiful AND becomes something useful afterward… that’s good design.

Sometimes the most powerful stories find you when you least expect them.

I got into an Uber while speaking Hebrew on the phone with my cousin. My driver heard me, realized I was Israeli, and immediately wanted to tell me his story.

He is a man from Eritrea who arrived in Israel in 2011 seeking refuge.

He told me that when he arrived, he was given clothes, food, housing and financial assistance. He found work and built a life there. Then, with so much pride, he showed me his Israeli driver’s licence and his wife’s Israeli ID card.

But what stayed with me most was when he spoke about his five children, who were born in Israel.

He said when you ask them, “What are you?” they answer:

“We’re Israeli. We’re Israeli. We’re Israeli.”

Today he lives in Canada, but he told me how much he would love to return to Israel.

And yet, we constantly hear people in the West telling us what Israel is, including people who would themselves be targeted in much of the Middle East simply for being who they are.

Meanwhile, here was a man who is not Jewish and was not born Israeli, who found refuge in Israel and couldn’t wait to tell an Israeli stranger how much the country meant to him.

His story doesn’t represent everyone’s experience. But his story deserves to be heard too.

A quick note about the video: I only started recording once I realized where our conversation was going, so unfortunately you’re joining us partway through. His English was limited, so you’ll also hear me going between English and Hebrew as I tried to understand and translate what he was telling me.

Sometimes we need to stop speaking for people and actually listen to them.

I’m really glad I listened to him.
