As I drag along here in the post-marathon blah phase, I did want to commemorate a pretty memorable training block. Haven’t had this much fun training in YEARS. Was able to run long run workouts which is something I’ve generally had to scratch due to poor recovery from them. I rarely ever dreaded a workout. I even looked forward to my solo treadmill incline recovery runs!

I knew that valuing the prep for Boston was equally, if not more important, than the actual race. The day itself is kind of a pain in the arse, if I’m being ungratefully, first-world probs honest. Standing outside for 90min in the cold to get on a school bus that gets lost, then a portopotty line that is dangerously long, then missing your start time because of said lost school bus and pee line; it gets me stressed.

@escursionistastl had texted me the night before the race when I started feeling grouchy (also lost my race day shoes and had to buy a replacement pair at the expo) and reminded me how much fun she had seen me having on my training runs. I made a list of the runs in the build that felt special and I tried to keep those in the forefront of my brain during the race.

Things different for this Boston from the other two I’ve run: let gravity take me on the downhills as I locked into good form, lots of fast uphill and downhill running in my training, more strength training and a f-ton more carbs during hard efforts. In marathons past, I’ve done about 6 gels during. For this race I did 6 gels plus 120g carbs in a bottle. I even did a Precision ON a stale English muffin in the bus. I also ran less weekly miles and prioritized more sleep over more miles.

Having @cjaycoxpt15 @jcarter_runner @a_mon_runs @runawayzaika @maria_lovestorun and a few others to commiserate with before and during race weekend was such a blast. I’ll always treasure this one.

Oh, and for the numbers people like me who get irked when they have to go sleuth race times, I’ll spare you the work 😂 3:15:52. 5 min positive split. But 16 min faster than ‘23 and 30 min faster than ‘22. Booshhhh. taken in Boston Marathon by @shan.nonymous

Reminiscing on the marathons I’ve done, with the first one being 25 years ago💀

In two weeks, I’ll be running my tenth. It’s impossible to know how it’s going to go, but one things for certain: I’ve had SUCH a blast this block which means more than the actual time on the clock. I was SO disappointed with my performance of my last one (my second fastest 🙄) and that’s when I realized I needed a break from this distance.

1.5 years later, I’m feel ready, fit, nervous, scared, excited, and just proud to have put in the work. by @shan.nonymous

Macklind Mile 2025

This was my fifth year participating (third involving my kid/s, first with a pup). It’s my absolute favorite STL running event.

It was super warm and humid and Des and Lola had a hard time. He was immediately ready to leave when our race was finished and was crabby because of a blister on his heel.

It was a long walk back to the car and I barely spent any time with my team. I was vowing that I wouldn’t bring kids to this event again.

But then @vegandurancestl sent me this video of our finish. It helped shift my whole attitude back into perspective. Running is a daily habit for me, like brushing my teeth. I will have thousands more “tooth brushing” events in the future. But running side-by-side with one of your kids, when they’re still young, is so fleeting and special. I don’t know if he’ll ever want to run again with me, but today he did. He finished what he set out to do and we got to share it together. I am so incredibly proud of his grit and determination. Thank you, Chris, for unknowingly helping me cherish this morning. You’re a great friend and congrats on your new PB! 🤩

Had to share this here so it can remain frozen in time. ❤️ taken in Macklind Mile by @shan.nonymous

Same photogenic energy, but this year the 5k PR is official 🤩

10° warmer yesterday but I felt 100% stronger than last summer’s TT.

Yo, Indy #4 was one of THE most epic moments of my (running) life. I cannot put into words how fun this day was (although knowing me, I could probably/definitely write an entire post about how I “literally” cannot put it into words, and then run out of characters).

So for now, I’ll share as many pics as IG will allow in one post since I am a sucker who paid $75 for race pics.

Thank you for all the cheers, words and encouragement and miles run with me the last few months. The more fun running is, the less it feels like work and the more willing I am to push on the hard days, so thanks to everyone who inadvertently got me to “play” a little harder. I have the best teammates in @spewakracing ❤️

Channeling my inner @em_sisson_ …..about to *easily* pass the 1:12 HM guy since I had just chewed up and spit out the 1:06 boys. Ok, that’s not *exactly* what happened but we’re pretending I’m Em Sisson here, mmmmk?

If I don’t have someone to get through the reps WITH me, I try to start my reps around fast runners so I have some 🐰 to continue to chase. #amatuernonelitepromaster by @shan.nonymous

I will always cherish this past summer. The person who created and captured most of these moments is getting married on Saturday and it’s giving me all the feels. Without him, I wouldn’t know any of these humans or have had any of these experiences. Could be the run endorphins talking, but more likely, it’s because I’ve never had a mentor quite like Mark. Thanks for all the memories and coaching me through hard times. You are one in a million and you have found someone as equally inspiring as you in Katie. So, so happy for the both of you. Cheers ❤️

*Apologies to anyone (Mark) featured on this video given eyeliner without consent; I didn’t notice it until after the fact. But no wonder I thought I looked extra cute 💅 by @shan.nonymous
