Welcome to Bean Island ☀️ Mother Nature gave us one last gift of summer this past weekend on the Chippewa River.

Have you ever been to a paddle-up concert on the river?! We hope this first-time event won’t be the last. Major thanks to @friendsofbeanisland, @benholmen and @eauclaireoutdoors for bringing us to and fro.

And to our lovely guest musicians 🤍

One pandemic morning, the words “from an early age I learned not to trust my mind” came into my head, accompanied by the guitar riff that starts the song. Throughout 2020 I found respite from isolation in co-writing with friends over the phone. I called Jon Sunde and we wrote the rest of the song together. I struggle with the ever-present tension between heart and mind — what we know to be truth versus what we truly feel.

Heart & Mind is out everywhere today. The album Make the Birds Fly is out Feb 26th. CD/vinyl preorder now available from @sleepycatrec

Written by @shaneleonardstuff and @sundeje

New artist, new album!! Eau Claire producer Shane Leonard has actually been in the Sleepy Cat-alog since 2023, producing @chessa_rich's Deeper Sleeper, featuring some of my favorite grooves and drum tones. If you're a cred head you'd find his name on dozens of projects including multiple @humbirdhumbird and @sundeje records, and local acts @mipsomusic and @skylargudasz. I highly recommend visiting the discog section on his website if you're in the market for new music.

Make the Birds Fly feels like a perfect introduction to Shane as an artist: curious, funny, strange, tender and wonderfully unpredictable. The title track, recorded in a single take on a Tascam Portastudio, feels like a manifesto for the whole album: Shane trying out lyrics in real time before landing on the simple desire, “I only want to make the birds fly.”

Today you can read the full album bio by Sarah Magill, and preorder vinyl/cd from our website. Link in bio

Album out Feb 26th 2027. Single 1 drops Tuesday.

Catch him live in Durham, NC Oct 31st at @sleepyfest Cattyrompus

This was the default text that showed up in the video editing software, which I thought was hilarious, so I just left it. But then I was like "Why do I think that's hilarious? I mean, what does that say about me? Have I grown so cynical as to laugh at the notion of believing in oneself?" That got me down for a second. But then I realized laughing was just an intelligent response to this absurd era of mass produced pseudo sentiment. What I'm saying is, experience classic reality with me as we embark on a few @humbirdhumbird duo shows this weekend:

What to say but after just a couple more years than expected, Wedington is here! Whether republican or democrat, everyone agrees this is my first album. Unity!

I am so excited Wedington was produced by THE ONE, THE ONLY Courtney Hartman! After I tracked the demos at home in Arkansas, I went up to Eau Claire and slept in Courtney and John’s garden shed for one of the best weeks of my life.

@courtneyhartman assembled such a wrecking crew!

@shaneleonardstuff mix/drums
@zguigueno upright bass
@zen_lester pedal steel/piano/keys
@huunner a dash of clarinet
